View Full Version : I may have found car # 6... jayoldschool 02-13-08, 11:25 PM I am not looking for another car. I don't need another car. I need less cars. Some of you know that I have a few cars. For those that don't, the current stable is as follows:
1995 Impala SS with lots of mods (the biggest being a T56 manual trans)
1992 Roadmaster Wagon that is reliable
1981 Cadillac FWB D'Elegance coupe
1971 Pontiac Parisienne custom (shaved, etc, etc...)
1965 Impala convertible (stock, from California)
Check out what I just found: "1977 CADILLAC DEVILLE DEL EGANCE 140000 KMS aprox. American car white
with blue roof ,blue interior. 425 ci engine. $175.00 of new tuneup
parts included with car. Exhaust 2 years old .Needs some TLC. Stopped
driving because I inherieted my dads car. We were going to restore
the car
but decided to sell instead. My dads car means more to me. Pic avabile
apon request. $1,000. obo. Cash only"
Don't know anything else. I just emailed to see if it is a coupe or sedan, and what "TLC" it needs. Do I want it? Not sure. What do you guys say? I have space, outside. My garage takes 6 cars, and is full. Space for as many as I want on the driveway that is paved (I live out in the country).
Anyone have pics of a 77 D'Elegance?
Help me make up my mind.
Stupid white cars. Why can't I cool colours?:suspect: TexasCadillac 02-14-08, 07:23 AM TLC = tender loving care. lol jayoldschool 02-14-08, 10:22 AM lol, I know what TLC means. What I am wondering is what specific "TLC" it needs. Like fixing a broken power antenna, or patching rusty floorpans.
They haven't emailed me back yet. I'll call today...
And, I meant to type, "Why can't I FIND cool colours?" I was tired... Benzilla 02-14-08, 02:29 PM So I don't even know how your '81 is doing.. wasn't that kind of a project? How's it coming?
It sounds like you're not really into the '79, you want a car with colors, and it's white. And you're not looking for another car in the first place, so why take one on just because it's for sale?
P.S. I'd totally buy it, screw logic. :p jayoldschool 02-14-08, 02:52 PM So I don't even know how your '81 is doing.. wasn't that kind of a project? How's it coming?

Yeah, Ben, you and I are the same. Cars are like lost dogs to me. They just follow me home. If this thing is decent, and is a coupe, I'm going to buy it. After my post last night, I found the factory brochure. The taillights on the 77 are really cool, and the D'Elgance seats are pimp beyond belief.
I will say no to the sedan to maintain some level of self control :histeric:
Sigh... where are the black, red, blue, etc, etc, cars?
Ben, you're the resident expert on the 77-79 cars. What can you tell me that I might not know?
And yes, the 81 is coming along. Tony hooks me up with parts, and keeps me motivated with the buildup on his black 81. It's in the garage at my place now, too (I brought it out of storage when we moved into our new place). Benzilla 02-14-08, 03:07 PM Haha, okay fair enough.
Lets see, I'm not sure what you already know about it. If it was some kind of rare special edition, I'd be able to fill a page lol. Other than that, I can't think of any red flags to watch out for, ever owner a 425 before? The only thing I can think of is that many 1977-1979s have ride height issues. Oddly, I don't see it so often on the '80s cads. What happens is that inevitably the cars sag about 1 inch over the years, sometimes more, depending on the miles, but the rear usually sags *slightly* more, - but this isn't the end of the story, the next part is what screws with me. - Then, many times the owner will take the car to an all service lube-joint to have tires put on, and an overall inspection of the car, where the shop promptly tells the owner they need new rear springs, and suggest installing the heavy-duty set for good measure (ignoring the front entirely). After this, the cars have a noticeable and unflattering rake. Both '79s that I bought were like this. All it takes to correct is either replacing the front springs, or getting shorter rear springs, depending on the look you want. Many people never notice it, but it ruins the graceful, flowing lines of these cars to have the rear stuck up like a wanna-be muscle car.
That's all I can think of. Hope they get back with you soon on the door # verdict.
Ben jayoldschool 02-14-08, 08:40 PM Here's (http://www.car-nection.com/yann/Dbas_txt/Phocad77.htm) the brochure link, btw. Click on the main page and you will find a wealth of info for the other years... Benzilla 02-14-08, 09:31 PM Oh yeah, great site. It's been in my favorites for years. :)
Interesting side note, 1977 was the last year that Cadillac used artist's depictions of excessively lowered versions of the full size line. Some of the pictures make the cars appear nearly five inches lower than they actually were. Just look at the limousine! In the '78 brochure all the cars appear at a more realistic suspension height. I just always thought it was interesting.

Need i say more? Id have it in my driveway yesterday if it wasnt re-painted. I talked to the guy. Said its all original but that paint, Always black, just the new paint. For the Price... still worth it. But i was looking for something i could buy clean up and sell as a 22k mile jem. He said a reputable shop painted it, but me being in the body shop buisness, tend to think there is no one better then our company, though we got the award of being the best of the best body shop for the past 11 years in the area, and still running. Thats hard to beat, even when there are about 6 other body shops in town.
Sorry to jack the thread there.
I coupe, 1977.... i do like the tail lights. Seems to be a good price depending on TLC.
Ben, why did they paint the license plate fillers silver? I know you had yours re-done on your coupe... j/w if GM had a reason. Benzilla 02-14-08, 11:00 PM Yes, I have the disease, lol.
That black coupe sounds gorgeous. The Antique Saddle & Sable Black is pretty rare, I've only seen one, and it was a Sedan. Great looking combo.
I think they painted them silver to blend better with the bumper chrome. That's all I can think of. But since mine were painted body-color before, I can say I really do like the silver better. It just brightens up the area.
Ben mharker 02-18-08, 12:55 AM Jay correct me if I'm wrong... but arent' you in the GTA? I think you referred me to Danny over in Ajax... and you are also on the ImpalaSS board.
So... you live out in the country? Let's talk about putting up a steel building on your property so we can store some more cars!! jayoldschool 02-18-08, 12:08 PM Nope, just outside of Ottawa. But, yes, I am on the SS forum, and know lots of the T.O. guys from the board and from summer get-togethers.
I have 5 acres... maybe I should put in an 1/8th mile strip, too!:bouncy: mharker 02-19-08, 11:43 AM Hey Ottawa's my home town. I get there a few times per year. Now I'm in Stouffville.
5 acres? Man you could build a whole car barn and your wife might not even notice it was there. | |
