View Full Version : A few pics of my 2 Caddys... AElayyat 02-12-08, 10:50 PM Hey fellas, here are a few pics of my 2 Caddys. The white one is my 89 Brougham d'Elegance, this is my current project. I just had the headliner re-done as well as the front door pannels (arm-rest portion). For more info on that project, I have a thread about it that I posted about 1 month ago.
The gold one is my 85 Fleetwood Brougham d'elegance. I got this Caddy a new set of tires this past November (2007).
Tell me what you guys think of my Caddys as well as any suggestions. Enjoy. 1990CaddyBrougham 02-12-08, 10:59 PM For both....

That is the same thing I am thinking, just one thing stopping me; the $$$$$. When and if one finds the factory wire wheels they cost an arm and a leg. My_favorite_Brougham 02-12-08, 11:34 PM You really like tint don't you? lol, I don't think that's legal that dark here in Texas. And how's the 4.1 holding out on you? (comparison to 307?)
Both look real nice!

Hehehe, yup I gotta have my tint! The gold one has limo tint and the white one has 'dark', the one under limo.
Knock on wood, that 4100 has actually been really good to me, the only problem I have with it is that it has no power. Cadillacboy 02-13-08, 12:09 PM Superb lookin cars dude ! I like 'em all indeed ;) jayoldschool 02-13-08, 02:13 PM Love the white on red. One of my favourite combos... Benzilla 02-13-08, 02:45 PM Nice looking cars, didn't you have the '85 repainted at some point? It'd be cool to see before pictures.
Also, where did you get the armrests from on the '89? Did they come in that color, or did you have them dyed? I need to get a set done.

Yup I had the 85 re-painted back in 04. I had the arm rests recovered by the same shop that did the top, headliner and driver's seat for my 85. Benzilla 02-14-08, 12:35 AM Cool, two questions then:
How much was it to have the driver's seat redone, if you don't mind.
The armrests; are they new replacement formed plastic, or did they recover the old ones?
Sorry if I'm being nosey, but I need both of the same things done on my '89, and I'd like to gather more information. :) AElayyat 02-14-08, 11:02 PM Cool, two questions then:

Your not being nosey man, don't trip.
To be honest with you, I don't know for just the seat what the guy charged me, it's kind of a long story. To make a long story short though a friend of mine who owns a used car dealership took the car in for me as if it was a dealer car (I eventually got to see more work that this shop does when I ended up working for that used car dealership about year after the gold caddy was done). By the way, that shop does great work for a great price.
For the 85 (gold caddy) the guy recovered the driver's seat, re-did the vinyl top, re-did the headlinner as well as the side pannels in the rear (where the map lights go) all for $700.
For the white caddy (89) I had him re-cover the arm rest portion of the front door pannels, it is just vinyl. I had been after a set of door pannels or even just the arm rests for about 2 years. I looked at the local pick-a-parts and ebay without any luck. I just said the hell with it and had them re-covered along with the headlinner. For this one I paid $315 to have the headlinner, side pannels (again where the map lights go), and the trim surrounding the rear window (this part is just metal on my 85, but for the 89 it is covered in fabric...), and the front arm rests re-covered.
Shop around your area and get several estimates on the work you need done. But my best guess is that each arm rest should cost you anywhere from $70 to $80 to have recovered, and the driver's seat will flucuate depending if you want it re-done with leather or vinyl, but I'm gonna say that it should be any where from $200+, because your 89 does not have the d'elegance style seats (which are a bitch and a half to cover due to all of the buttons).
I hope that helps you a little, and I have been following your thread on your 89, can't wait to see it when it's all done.
P.S. I could not find any before pictures of my 85 caddy(gold one), because my old hard drive crashed and those pictures were ones that were lost in the process. Benzilla 02-14-08, 11:26 PM Thanks, that's helpful. You got a hell of a deal on the work for the '85!
I wondered about the armrests just being covered, the previous owner of my Phaeton spared no cost when having the leather done, and they had both armrests padded and covered in leather. They even had the backs & sides of the seats done in leather instead of vinyl. I love it, just more quality feeling than formed plastic. I might go that route with the '89.
The trim around the rear window interests me, it's vinyl covered on both of my '79s, it was metal on my '83, and it's metal on my '90. Did you just have him cover it in headliner material or what? It sounds nice.
I know the simple seat pattern on the '89 is my friend, only thing I can think of that would raise the price would be the black piping. (which I LOVE by the way, lol) It would also need the center armrest done at the same time. But my mechanic told me about a supposedly amazing upholstery guy in my area that did his leather motorcycle tank. His only rule is no headliners, but he'll do anything else, and apparently he does top-notch work for way less than you'd expect. I'll go to him first.
Thanks a lot for the info, you're really helping me out.

Hmm, that's odd. The formal package roof ('88-'92 I believe) which has that quarter window frame should be bare plastic with leather interior and fabric-covered plastic with cloth interior - to match the door panels and seats. The non-formal roof cars didn't have a frame, so they were just chromed metal. But your '89 has leather; why does it have fabric covering those frames? Personally I don't care for the fabric on that piece and preferred mine the way they were (bare on a leather '90). Are you sure those are the original inserts? Hell yeah, that guy hooked me up on the 85! I think he really liked the car which was why he gave me a deal. The only thing that would have kept me from have the armrests recovered in leather is the cost. But hit up all shops in your area and go from there and ask to see their work. Hehehe, you found em man! That car use to look like shit, but runs like a top, aint that some shit! AElayyat 02-16-08, 10:19 PM Hmm, that's odd. Yup my 89 has that formal top option. Your are correct, the 1/4 windows are surrounded with plastic, but to the best of my knowledge the trim surrounding the rear window was covered in fabric from the factory. I have never seen other Brougham's w/ the formal package on the inside, same for 90-92 Broughams so I'm not sure what Cadillac did with the formal optioned cars (87-89 I believe). | |
