hi everyone. I just bought JR Kook's maggie. Nearly all my life I have been a hardcore Mopar racer. My current two other cars are the 1973 Sox and Martin 's Chrysler factory sponsored Pro Stock Hemi Duster and an outlaw turbo twin turbo hemi 69 Road runner.
I wanted a different street ride and bought the Caddy. It's got Cartec stage 3 heads and 3x cam kit, a maggie, the big pulley 9lb boost, Kook's headers, stainless exhaust, MSD coil packs , methanol injection, Qal1 12 way shocks, toyo's and a few other items.I will check this board to see what I can learn about these great cars.Right now I am still learning to drive it

To say it's impressive is an understatement.Supposed to have made 540 RWHP on a 105 degree day.

Welcome Fred!
You bought yourself a great V.
The Sox & Martin cars were some of my favorites to watch a the strip in the 70's. Guess that shows how old I am.

What methanol kit do you have? Does it use the washer fluid reservoir?

Not sure who's it is but the pump and reservoir mount up front. It looks like a washer unit tank

That's what I thought ! I beat it pretty good after the first test ride.
I have drag cars that are much faster and quicker and they never get any sissy runs. Other than safety issues neither will this one.

Hey, Fred, meant to ask, how are you controlling wheel hop in that thing?

Hey, Fred, meant to ask, how are you controlling wheel hop in that thing?

I don't get any hop because the Toyo's just go up in smoke when you get on it. Full throttle in first or second just blows them away. At 40 MPH in 3rd gear it still breaks them loose somehat. It does have some chassis mods in a package by H&R like the QA1 shocks, sway bars and some things I haven't found out yet.

No more mods for this one. It's just going to be my driver. I have 2 faster Mopars to take to the track. My Duster runs 8.50's and the Road Runner has been 7.20's with the small motor. The new 2800 hp twin turbo hemi built for it will not work in that chassis so a new car is scheduled that will hold it.

well after just 200 miles I broke it.The driver's side axle snapped like a stick pretzel. Making a new post on info for aftermarket remedies

Have you thought about the 06 - 07 axles or is this what you snapped?

fred's maggie
02-14-08, 08:02 PM
Today I ordered the replacment axle and one half of the posi case because the bushing that the axle runs through looked banged up. I am totally unfamiliar with anything relating to these cars. What options do I have.
it snapped right on the spline leaving a piece inside the spider gear

Check out Nutz' thread ... he's working out the issues regarding production of a billet steel machined diff housing. Won't help your axle, but if you've got pre-'06 axles, then you may want to get '06/'07 axles ... a bit bigger diameter (1-1/4" for the '04/'05 vs 1-3/8" or 1-1/2" for the '06/'07 ... can't remember and it's probably in millimeters anyway).

fred's maggie
02-14-08, 09:54 PM
if i buy the 07 axles isn't the spline the same ? . that's where mine broke .

rand49er

if i buy the 07 axles isn't the spline the same ? . that's where mine broke .I would think so, but don't know for sure. Have no hands-on experience with diff and axles ... yet.

fred's maggie
02-14-08, 11:37 PM
unless I am seeing somethng in the wrong way. bigger diamter would have no effect solving a problem like mine. you would still have the same splines but thicker diameter axles. You would need a larger spline on the spider gears to accomodate larger splined axles if there is such a thing.

You are correct sir

lunarx
02-15-08, 01:14 AM
What were you doing when it snapped?
Was it a launch or hitting it from a roll?
Was wheel hop involved?

I suppose you could cryo treat your splines, for a bit of extra insurance against a repeat failure. :alchi:

It broke when I hit it from a 20mph roll. I would think that it's had a fair share of abuse prior to my owning it. my only concern about cryo is that it might also make it more brittle and the question as to
also do the spider gears.. back in the day we always softened the ring gears like some drag cars do now. teeth wear is increased but tooth breakage decreased.
