My tranny in my 85 fleet is shifting rufflly into 2nd but is tempermental and is smooth occasionally, all other gears work fine. I looked into a shift improvement kit.If I install this before anything gets worse will the upgrade repair my problem?
I only ask this because I dont want to rebuild the whole tranny but if I add a the shift kit, the tranny place is gonna have to get into my gears anyway, Right?
The kit instal is $430 with parts and labor... the rebuild is $900 the minute I say I think there's a problem. Let me know if I'm playing my cards right or if I'm way off base.
Thanks
Joe
WAY off base. That trans' shift quality is determined by a cable from the throttle to the trans. Its called a TV cable. Have a trans shop adjust it for you first.( should take 5 min. max!!) Its either misadjusted or binding at times causing erratic shifts. Also put your year and type of Cad in your profile signature so you wont have to type it in every time you post!

When the tranny in my 85 Fleetwood Brougham went out, I had it rebuilt and a shift kit installed. When I am crusing the tranny shifts a little harder than stock, but when I put my foot in it, the shifts are nice and firm. It all depends if you want the Cadillac softness, just get the tranny rebuilt (if that is the problem), other wise get the kit if you want performance feel.
