Odometer Rolled once 155xxx OG Miles
MAtching VIN 4100, Rebuilt OG TRanny with overdrive, Air ride leveling systems, not air bags, but the car floats and never scrapes
Original NAvy blue interior, One minor defect on Driver seat but is unnoticeable when your sitting in the seat

All options work, even cruise control, Radio is being upgraded but will mount under seat to hold value. The original radio works but static takes over occasionally, Minor problem .

THe only other defect in apperance, besides needing paint, is the passenger side soft top exterior light cover is missing .

What do you want to know? If we like it? If you should buy it? If you got a good buy? If it is a good price?

How about a little more info...

I think it's a good looking car, it's a unique model for '85 model year as the Coupe DeVille was the shrunken car that year. In LA, the pimps go crazy for those and often often customize them, lowering them etc. They even got a guy who makes up the side mouldings for the 2 door like the the 90-92's have. They do that and throw the front clips and rear tail lights on there and call it a "euro" style.

Why do they call it "euro" style? Cadillacs are all American, and I like it that way.

I guess the gray side mouldings and the non-sealed beam headlamps are supposed to be "euro". The 80 to 92 body style was spposed to be discontinued around 1984, more on that if you like.

That's a new one on me, then again I'm not really into the custom thing. I ended up hearing about it from these guys who were selling an '84 Coupe and and an '85 Fleetwood Coupe, both in white. It was kind of neat to see the two cars pulling up.

Euro because the mouldings, tail lights, and single sealed beam halogen headlamps are sopose to look more european. Idk how you can pull that off on such a huge car.

But back to the thread at hand, i belive he owns it.
Nice car. Presents its mileage well. Very well. I like it. Pillow top delegance seats too... NICE!!

I think it's because Europe didn't have so many regulations on headlight size in the '80s, so their cars got oddball headlight sizes while American cars still got the standard 4x6 sizes. So, when Cadillac came out with the composite headlights, the got called euro. Make sense? It's something like that, there was a thread explaining it all a while back.

Umm, that was probably mine. still didn't get a good answer...
(Why do they call 90-92 Broughams European??) (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/rwd-19xx-1984-deville-fleetwood-1985/95838-why-do-they-call-90-92-a.html)

Yeah, this post in particular. I think that's the best answer you'll get.

"For many years, North American headlight design was regulated as to size and shape, hence we had big single round lamps and small round lamps as well as small rectangular lamps. The Europeans were not limited to this and large irregular shaped lamps were common long before we got them. Notably, Mercedes and BMW to name two, had to restyle headlamps to comply for cars imported to the US and Canada. You may recall seeing large lamped models in Europe or on television over there. I would think thats where the european reference started when Cadillac went to a large single rectangular lamp."

Ben.

Of all crazy things, GM was anticipating $3 a gallon gas by the mid 80's. To prepare for this, they shrunk down the whole line big time, just look at the '86 Eldo. The 4100 was actually designed for these cars which they were figuring on introducing in 1983 but the development of the car fell behind; that along with the fact that the 4-6-8 was very problematic resulted in the 4100's being put into the full sized Caddy.
Once 1985 rolled around and gas wasn't $3 (about $1.25 as I remember) they were basically caught with there pants down and no large Cadillac so they kept the D-body in the line to fill the gap. The big Caddy hung around for a few more years (good for us) ended up getting the Olds 307 then the 350 then the LT-1 and even a new body on the old 1977 chassis. By 1996, the sales had slowed a bit and demand for SUV's had skyrocketed. GM ended up switching the line over to truck production and in the process lost all the police car, taxi cab and full size passenger sedan business to the Crown Vic / Lincoln Town Car.

Hmm, is that why the other d-body cars like the Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight and Buick Electra Park Avenues were discontinued after '85? I would really have like to seen those in a 90-92 version like the Caddy that stayed. Then the b-bodies like the Delta 88 and Lesabre were shrunken for '86. Wagons and Caprices must have been the exception because they stayed big until '96 (less the Olds CC) along with Cadillac. thoughts? Maybe Cadillac shoulda' put for 4.9L engine in some cars. After all it's almost a 5L and bigger than the 4100, powerful and reliable. thoughts?

You're correct, I forgot to add that in about the Buicks and Oldsmmobiles. The 4100,4500 4.9 were designed specifically front front wheel drive cars. I wish they'd kept the 93-96 Fleet going a few more years (more of them for us!!) and maybe did one more redesign. The Lincoln T-Car still rides on the '79 platform (with minor mods) so it's just a matter of changing around sheet metal. Not a big deal, Cadillac used to do it EVERY year.

I'm just a proud owner. Just wanted to here some stories. My uncle got this car in 95 from the original owner for $1500 and continued to baby this automobile until he gifted it to me. It sat in Napa for 5 months. I picked it up checked all the fluids and it made it back to the East Bay. I whole 40 something miles.

Now it's been my turn to baby this beauty. I'm going to restore as much as possible. It's an everyday driver so I'm really in tune with this Brougham, If somethings gonna happen I'll know right away.

It's not my first Cadillac from the 80's.

I've had FWD's: a 86 El Do(the baby 1), also had an 85 Touring Eldo with white Corvair Top, and I learned how to drive on my grandpa's 75 Coupe de ville.

Have a great Super Bowl Sunday All!!!!!
