I bought an Alpine iDA-X001 at Best Buy for only $79.99 on clearance (normally $450)!!!. It has full iPod integration as well as a USB interface, but does not have a CD player. I really like the unit, but am worried about hooking it up to my car. When I had my 1994 Seville hooked up at Best Buy, they charged me a lot of money to "re-wire" the speakers. For the newer cars, I have heard of a GMOS-06 adapter. Is this something I will need to retain my steering wheel controls and have the same sound from my Bose speakers. I don't want to have any problems, I just want it to work. My brother works at Best Buy and was head of car install but isn't sure on the cadillac options. I showed him pics of the GMOS-06 and he told me where each thing hooks up, but is that the only thing that I will need to have my car all set up and working again (other than mounting kit? I want this deck to work with my stock amp, speakers, steering wheel controls (on front of steering wheel- only volume and track buttons), on star (even though I don't have or use it), etc. Thanks again. Any help from people who had had this done or know how to do it would be great

Thanks again!!

The gmos-06 maintains the data class signal of the radio with the rest of the computer systems without it youll have numerous electrical issues, it keeps your stock amp and stock speakers while replacing only the hu, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR 6 DISC CHANGER THERE IS NO WAY TO KEEP IT. If you get an older gmos-06 they seem to work WORLDS better than the newer ones (you can tell them apart as they only have 2 rcas instead of 4 rcas to plug into your hu for the audio signals to the amp) and the older 2 rca plug model also keeps your wheel controls SORT OF, the vol button will control the vol of the AMP, ie it will not adjust your hu vol, the seek b/c there is only 2 rcas so the hu cannot do this, will act as a fader. The older ones are few and far between and both new or old they cost between 80-100 bucks, I have an older model one that i bought when they 1st came out to run tests on to help out the forum, if you want it i can sell it to you. BB last time i checked could not get this

the pac SWIX will be able to wire into everything to keep your wheel controls. BB can get this no problem they stock it.

Is a pac swix a replacement for the gmos-06 or is that in addition to it? If that works better and adds all my steering wheel controls correctly, I will go with that one. Also, When looking at the GMOS-06 google images, my brother said that some of the gmos-06 images would'nt work as they do not have the numerous wires to hook up to the HU. Is that true. See pics below.

Would this one be better

or would this one be?

From what you said, the top one would be with only 2 RCA outs, but where are all the purple and other wires for the head unit. Is that what some of the 4 RCA wires take the place of so it just plugs in?

you need the gmos-06 PERIOD regardless of anythign else

you want the wheel controls then you NEED the swix TO GET KEEP them working

all of the rest of the wires are at the white plug you cant see them cuz they are bunched up with the rest

both of those pics are of the older gmos-06 with only 2 rcas left and right
the newer one has four leftfront rightfront RR and LR
most places have not updated thier pics so youll likely be buying a gmos-06 with 4 rcas which sucks cuz they are plauged with issues

Are the new models supposed to be better in theory but just dont work well enough? I can see the wire ends for the HU in the lower pic, but the upper pic looked like there were less wires and I could not see if it had enough wires. They are the exact same setup though??

So I need a GMOS-06 for sure. why do I end up getting fader controls but the radio cant have a control for tracks, and same with the amp volume vs. head volume? What exactly will happen when the volume is turned down by the amp? Will it not have the same effect??? Sorry for asking so many questions but I am trying to decide if it is worth it to put in or if I should make some profit on ebay or craigslist as they are selling in the $250 area right now, at least for another couple weeks till the X100 comes out.

look just listen to what im saying...
it wont control the track it just wont cuz the track change is not adjusted by the amp but the fader and volume are so when you change the hu the amp is still attached and you adjust that via the wheel controls

the newer models added the fade to the hu, which means you have NO wheel controls at all this way, however again as i have stated they have N U M E R I O U S problems
