View Full Version : Looks like it's here to stay.... Wheelman322 01-31-08, 07:14 PM My other post got locked for some reason, but the 78 Fleetwood looks like it's here to stay....at least for now:D. Now the plan is to mod it to run high 13's. It will most likely rotate to position of daily driver since I sold my 07 M45 and the new Yukon Denali isn't suitable for that task.
I took two stabs at selling it on ebay and the best offer was $3600. I probably should've took it but pride wouldn't let me. I was thinking about trading for an LT1 powered Roadmaster, Caprice, Brougham or Impala but only one reply came in and the guy never recontacted me. I also had a local guy offer me $4,000 but he never followed through either.
So now I'm wondering what's best route to go...
1. Dump the freshly built 425 in favor of an impossible to find 500.
2. Build up the impossible to mod 425.
3. Swap frames with an LT1 powered 9C1 and build that up. If that's possible. Destroyer 01-31-08, 07:37 PM Hmmm, hmmmm..........there are plenty of options here and there is no right or wrong one. You wouldn't have to swap frames with an LT1 car to get the LT1 in there but a doner car would be good to get all the parts from including all the accessories, mounts, transmission, computer, associated harnesses and so forth. That would be very doable. The newer LT1 cars still use the same frame as yours so it would be a matter of swapping everything over. Sounds simple but it wont be, you will run into several snags along the way but you could buy an LT1 Caprice/Roadmaster/Fleetwood for cheap. Get a strong runner with lower miles but in need of bodywork/interior work.
Everyone here adores the Cadillac 500 and I'm no exception but if you want to use the car as a daily driver the 500 would not be a very economic choice. Other really good options would be a Vortec 5.7 Chevy found it countless Chevy/GMC trucks and vans. Much simpler than an LT1 and its very close in power with added reliability (no optispark, etc). If the 425 runs good there are some performance parts available but they are expensive and probably wont get the results you are looking for. Ball is in your court. urbanski 01-31-08, 07:46 PM your thread was locked since it was advertising someting for sale outside the classifieds. good luck with your ride. Good reply Dest. I never thought about the vortec motor but hmmmm. Funny enough, as I posted this, someone called me to offer a Roadmaster trade. Pending how that goes on Sunday, the project will be on.

Thanks Urb. My_favorite_Brougham 01-31-08, 11:12 PM your thread was locked since it was advertising someting for sale outside the classifieds. good luck with your ride.
I thought it was because we all loved it so much, you expected controversy and fighting over who gets it, and that's why you locked it...lol.. I guess that wasn't emotional enough a reason.. haha
But Urb, what do you call this?

SHhhhh What are you trying to do!? lol
You said you put alot of $$ into it, and are losing alot. So why put more in if you dont want to keep it anymore?
Just because you didnt sell on ebay, or locally yet, idk if you should give up. I know around here wouldnt be the time to sell such a car. Tax time is always good....
Whatever you do good luck. My_favorite_Brougham 01-31-08, 11:51 PM ^^^ Agreed. Folks who look at eBay know the average prices and can drive them down. But the tycoon down the block may not know that! Wheelman322 01-31-08, 11:57 PM Great responses....I figure if I'm going down with the ship, I might as well go Titanic. I'd rather build something usefull than give it away to Joe Scumbag who wants to pay nothing for it and than drive it into the ground. I'm not certain that I'm keeping it yet but considering the offers I got, it sure looks that way. I'd like to just blow it up on Youtube just to spite the a***oles that think they're doing me a favor by offering me $2,000, but I could never do that to something I love. | |
