I would like to upgrade my remote controll to something that will give me more distance from the car. I presently have to be almost three freet close for anything to work. . . . well not really . . . seems that the trunk will open a little further away. And another thing I have a newer remote garage opener, the remote with the car does not seem to be able to read it . . . any suggestion on that ? ? ?
Thanks - Hap

That's how they all are, typically. One way to extend range is to hold the remote to your chin and use your body as a big antenna to extend range...seriously.
On the Impala SS board, there have been trials of playing with the transponder antenna in the car and doing what possible to extend the range, but it doesn't make a HUGE difference. I can't find the link now, but some involved strategically placing foil, etc. and maybe changing the antenna.

Maybe you just need a new battery to restore the original distance specs. My remote used to only work when you held it up to the door; it wouldn't even make it back at the trunk. But a new battery and I can be as far away as a new car, about twenty yards!
The remote isn't the issue, the stubby antenna is.
Check the tech forum, there is something posted there on it (I think I posted it IIRC...)
There is mixed thoughts on it. I personally keep my keys in my back pocket, and from time time when I am out working on the yard or the truck I find the trunk of the Cad open, thanks the the remote buttons getting pushed in my pocket. Longer range would make that happen when I am INSIDE and not even know it.... Leaving my car wide open to animals, thieves, etc... I was going to "upgrade" the range, but decided not to...
