Among the favorites were, without a doubt, the '68 Sport Fury, '66 Continental, '59 Lincoln and the '60 D-100 with big block. The '84 Cutlass was my first car, my grandfather bought it new, then it was passed down to me. I actually got it when I was 14, learned how to detail on that car. The '96 was my first Cadillac, I bought it as a daily driver when the Cutlass needed a new engine, then sold it for my '90 Brougham. The Northstar started getting expensive and I wanted a change anyway.

The import doesn't count, lol. I impulse bought it for way under value to drive & save gas over the summer. Now the thing is falling apart faster than I can get rid of it.

Here is my list.

I had to stop and think ... I probably have missed a few.
Jesda and Ian have a few more cars to go before playing catch up.

The fun cars were the Celica, Maxima 5spd, 280/300ZX Turbo, and LSC.
The cars I prized the most were my (4) STS'.
Fastest car is the Lexus ... 0-60 in 6.2sec.
Car that felt the fastest was the 300ZX Turbo.
Fastest Cadillac was the 1995 STS ... definitely the hairiest Northstar.
The best car for a Sunday afternoon drive is the 71 Cutlass convertible.
The worst car, mechanically, was a tie with the Datsun F10 and Mecury
Capri.
The best car in terms of build quality is the Lexus LS400 ... its simply in a different class of workmanship and durability.
Of the 23 Japanese cars I've owned, none were any more reliable than their
American counterparts, with the exception of the LS.
Next car ... likely an 01/02 Eldorado as a weekend toy.

I was fortunate that my wife worked for GM (now retired) and we can buy on the employee plan. We would purchase several cars a year, keep them for a few months and then sell to friends for the initial purchase price. A great deal for them, and we would always be in a brand new car. Basically a wash money wise.

Probably others on the site are doing the same.

Yup, I wanted the 3800/4T60 (dead nuts reliable, but EASY to work on), it was the last year of the 4T60 not E, the 3800 VIN C, and we bought it with 58K on it and ran synthetic from that point in everything, and gave it away around 270K, and didn't do much except a few alternators, left front trans mount, brakes, tune up now and then, 1 coil block (1 coil of the 3 failed, but this is the old Magnavox Type 1 coil), 1 blow motor, tires, 1 inner tie rod, 2 fuel pumps, and I added the SE/SSE bigger rear bar but mine had the FE1 suspension (nicely balanced), and I cut 1 coil off the front end.

Honestly, for the $, we got a LOT out of that car.... I hardly put much ever into it. We litterly wore the car out, window regulators (yes, manual windows on a Bonneville! Last year of it...) I did finally break the steering column pulling on it hard one day reaching into the back seat and we never did bother replacing it... I got the Cadillac shortly after that, why bother?!

My car history is (and I think we've had these threads a few times before):

1984 Ford LTD (bad, bad, car, but it was free)
1970 Cadillac Sedan DeVille (good car, lots of work in it now)
1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (daily driver, fun, fast, cheap to fix but also feels cheap inside)

Short history, but I've only been driving for about 4 years.

No, I heard a loud "CRACK" and it no longer would tilt, it stayed floppy... I finally braced it up from underneath with some angle iron and hose clamps. It wasn't the best. I later tore it down to try to fix, and the aluminum housing inside was broken. Not much chance of repair without another parts column, and still a lot of work.

:histeric: Did all the column parts puke in your lap!?

DO NOT put much force on them, it is only thin cast aluminum....I was essentially pulling DOWN on the wheel and that did it in.

I drove a 04 Bonneville SSE down in Arizona once, given a choice of it vs my 91 Deville with 170K on it, I would without a doubt choose the Deville... Just not the same quality. The Deville was much more fun to drive and smoother power. The Bonneville was ok, but a few distinct class(s) BELOW the Cadillac.

Was it just the SSE or was it the supercharged SSEi ? I agree though the build quality on most newer Pontiacs (except maybe the BRAND new ones) is piss poor.

That said, the GTP goes like stink and handles pretty well too. :)

I did get a 05 GP GT (not SC) once, that was a BALL. And none of my group there could keep up with me, and to boot, I got better mpg! 29-30! And we FLEW all the time, 80+....

Now one of those, I would deal with.... The Bonneville was just disappointing...

The 04 Bonne we had was a std 3800....

I bet you wish now you hadn't gotten rid of that Grand Prix, that was a keeper even if there was nothing real amazing about it.

Yea I do wish I still had it... But at the time it just wasnt possible :( The thing that was special about it was the low mileage, and it was mint and 100% stock. Down to the hub caps, all factory, all glass was original, everything!

I wish I coulda kept that GP... not to mention it ran like a champ and smooooooooooth ride

I loved my GP. The 75 had the round headlights that I liked vs the 76 rectangles.

It was VERY well maintained and had the rally gauge package.

My step dad and a buddy flipped an brand new identical one in 75 on a twisty county road, cut off a telephone pole 6' off the ground, barrel rolled numerous times and ended up top down in a cemetery with a tombstone through the sunroof. Neither had a seat belt on and walked away unscratched. His buddy had pics of the crash framed and hanging in his living room that I would look at as a kid.

It was a TANK but would get up and go.

You don't see many on the road now. As fun as they are, I am pretty surprised. Is there any place that is good to find one?

I wouldn't mind to think about a Daytona, 87ish like my friend had (the classic red too) just for fun and daily driving....

So Sandy, got a favorite of all those? Which would you rather have again?

They were all my children. I am sorry, but I cannot pick out any. I loved them all. The 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP was the only lemon of the group. (and) What a lemon she was! Pontiac execs flew out to try & fix it, but they could not. They gave me back the money of what the car was worth at that time, and the car was sold at some auction. Good looking car, Bright Aqua, Camel Leather, Mooroof, all the options, Gold Factory Rims and a POS. I will not buy another Pontiac. It was 1997 when they bought me out & I got the Mark 8. I'd say I like best the Imperials, the Cadillacs & the Lincolns.
I've allways been partial to BIG American Luxury cars, and to lilac, rose, pink shades of color AND White Leather. My wife likes Silver, like the other one hundred gazillion million billon people. I like the unusual.

I noticed you had an 82 Imperial. Ever notice the screwup in the movie Apollo 13 with Tom Hanks in the scene with the Corvette with him and his wife and the cars passing by, one was a 82ish Imperial..... Sorta "out of place" for 1969-1970...

No, I didn't see that moive, but I've seen many, AND I MEAN MANY similiar car goof-ups. As well as some very rare & interesting cars parked on street scenes.

My #1 Fav? From the Movie "The gang that couldn't shoot straight" ...
After seeing the movie in a theatre, I purchased the tape of it for my VHS. Guess what ? THAT scene that I bought it for was deleted !! Was I mad !

The gang is on foot and all 25-30 of them are running down a street, and they turn left on foot, running into a fruit peddler knocking over his cart and there, low & behold, on this side street, are cars parked on both sides of the street..... like at least 30 cars per side, a good 60 cars are parked there.
Every last one, an Imperial. From 1957s to 1973s I damn near fainted.

It's not easy for most to be able to tell the years of Imps apart.

Too bad you didn't buy it. 1971 was (IMHO) the pinnacle of modern day Imps. I mean, headlight washers and brushes to clean? I cassette and a microphone for recording? A heated back window ? Sequential blink taillamps ? 440 6-pack level w/out the 6-pack ? Electroluminescent dash lighting? The 1st year for the Power Sun Roof, Illuminated power window buttons? Loads more goodies. Colors ? Hows about 26 choices?

Sheesh...where do I begin. I have owned at least 100 cars starting with my first, a 1939 Buick Special Model 41 that I bought at age 15 in March 1965 for $40.00 and hid behind the chicken coupe from my mom until after I turned 16 on May 29th. I sold an 1877 Indian Head penny in good condition for $40.00 and bought the car and drove it home after dark. With no license, insurance or any of those unecessary things.

Today at age 58 I own a 2006 GMC Sierra, loaded; 2002 Chevy 1-ton extended cargo van for my business (took delivery the Saturday after the 9/11 attack); a 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood with many extra options in near-new condition; a 1999 Olds Bravada Platinum Edition that we drive everywhere, a 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Classic Edition by American Sunroof; and a 1929 Buick Master Six Model 27-116, an all-original running presentable car with 10,838 miles on it. As they say, "They Are Only Original Once", and everything from the paint to the interior is 80 years old. I've only done things to make it safe and dependable to drive. We will show this car at the 105th Anniversary of Buick/100th Anniversary of General Motors Meet being held in mid-July 2008 right here where it all began, Flint, Michigan.

Nothing that I own is anything special, but I like them:thumbsup: I've owned oil burners and fast cars, a hearse and two limousines, three diesel cars and a diesel Suburban, cars rust-free and one nearly rusted in half (a '78 Opel that I drove one winter), cars I only drove 7 miles (bananas in the transmission) and cars I've driven over 100,000 miles, two-doors, four doors, wagons, a doodlebug and some trucks and vans.

But you know the most COMFORTABLE driving car I've ever owned? A 1996 Buick Roadmaster Wagon. AND it's faster than heck! AND gets 23 mpg on the X-way with the cruise set at 78 mph. THEN I sold it with 206,000 miles to a fellow local Buick Club member...he and his wife are in their 70's and they just took a two-week round-trip to Florida in it! From Flint Michigan! In March 2008!

Maybe that's why GM quit building them--they last too long!
