: Bad Alternator?

Is there a way to test if the bearings went bad in an alternator? The car is still getting a good charge but something down there is making a terrible grinding noise. It began with a loud knock every once in awhile and I noticed that everytime there was a knock the alternator slightly jumping...perhaps trying to stop. I have a toyota tacoma that did something a little like this but it ended up being the a/c compressor.

Remove the alternator/accessory belt and spin the alternator by hand. It should be smooth and quiet.

It's the alternator...I have removed 1 bolt on top and 2 on bottom as well. Is there something else I'm missing because I can't get the thing to budge.

How do I know if my car has a heated windshield?

1, maybe even 2 bolts on the back also. No, just 1 I thinK - I think the AC compressor maybe has 2

Do you have a button to turn it on?
