This may be a stupid question......but.

-Preface:
I have a 1987 Seville that is a 2 owner Cadillac me being the 3rd.

Can I go to a Cadillac dealer and get all the fixes done to my Seville from GM recall's since 1987?

i.e., here's 2; one from 1987 and one from 2006

1987 CADILLAC SEVILLE Recall ID from NHTSA: 87V047000
Auto Recall Date: 19870406
Vehicle Component: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS:SWITCH
Estimated Vehicles Affected: 56783
1987 CADILLAC SEVILLE Defect Summary:
THE TWILIGHT SENTINEL POTENTIOMETER (THUMBWHEEL CONTROL) MIGHT HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH ELECTRICAL CONTACTS WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT.
Defect Consequence:
WITH THE TWILIGHT SENTINEL SYSTEM ON, THE INTERMITTENTCIRCUIT COULD CAUSE HEADLIGHT AND INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS TO GO OUT. SUDDENLOSS OF HEADLIGHTS COULD REDUCE DRIVER VISIBILITY AND MIGHT RESULT IN A VEHICLECRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
Remedy:
INSTALL A NEW PART IN ONE OF THE VEHICLES CONTROL COMPUTERS TO PREVENT THIS CONDITION FROM OCCURING.
Notes: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.,

1987 CADILLAC SEVILLE Recall ID from NHTSA: 06E043000
Auto Recall Date: 20060519
Vehicle Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
Estimated Vehicles Affected: 88303

1987 CADILLAC SEVILLE Defect Summary:
CERTAIN REPLACEMENT FUEL FILTERS, FRAM BRAND NAME P/N G3727, WITH DATE CODES X52911 THROUGH X60801 SEQUENTIALLY OR X600141 AND A MEXICO COUNTRY OR ORIGIN MARKING ON THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING MANUFACTURED FROM OCTOBER 18, 2005, THROUGH MARCH 21, 2006, SOLD FOR USE ON THE VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE AND ON CERTAIN SCHOOL BUSES. (TO SEE THE SCHOOL BUS ENGINE SIZES, CLICK ON "DOCUMENT SEARCH" AND THEN "BUS APPLICATIONS"). THE CONNECTOR ON THE FUEL FILTER WAS NOT MANUFACTURED TO HONEYWELL'S SPECIFICATION. AS A RESULT, THE O-RING MAY NOT SEAT CORRECTLY ON THE FUEL LINE.
Defect Consequence:
THIS CONDITION MAY CAUSE AN INADEQUATE SEAL AT THE CONNECTION, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO A FUEL LEAK. IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, A FIRE COULD OCCUR.
Remedy:
HONEYWELL WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE FUEL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MAY 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FRAM CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-890-2075 (OPTION 1).

No you cant, I tried that with my mustang two years after they had the recall, and they said they wont change it anymore. So, I'm saying no, on this one.

The dealer should change the TS switch if it has not already been done on your car and they still produce the part. There should not be an expiration on a safety recall. If your car was affected it may have been taken care of by a previous owner. Call a dealer with your VIN and they should be able to tell you whether your car was affected and whether the fix was previously done.

From what I read there is only one possible recall thru Cadillac. The other is thru Honeywell or Fram once the part number on your car's fuel filter is confirmed. And if you have the faulty filter on your car they will send/hand you a replacement, not install it. Just call a Cad dealer and give the service advisor your 17 digit VIN number. When I was a service mgr. every GM car coming thru my shop was checked for open incomplete recalls prior to repair. Got me on the good side of the zone mgr. and was good for customer relations!

wilson, Take chubbyranger's advice and take the VIN to a dealer and have them pull the warranty and recall history for the car.

Miscellaneous parts recalls time out. Safety recalls don't.

I just read the filter recall.....it's aftermarket, not GM. You're outta luck unless you have a store receipt because a good GM dealer would NEVER use FRAM filters.

Recalls, safety or emission related do NOT time out. Some people confuse recalls with bulletins. Bulletins are issued to help save time and help with repairs. Recalls are issued because the Goverment or the factory are concerned regarding safety or possible emissions non compliance.
