: How far are we from broadband in cars?

My cell phone has unlimited broadband data service (truly unlimited, unlike Verizon). Cars have bluetooth support now for speakerphone and contact synchronization. I can't imagine it being that hard to add bluetooth dial-up networking for broadband internet access in the car.

It could be used for routing people around traffic, weather updates, streaming radio, emergency alerts, service updates, etc. The CTS does some of this through XM, but I suspect an aftermarket system with bluetooth DUN for full internet access in the car could do so much more.

"Ahh yes, Hi Boss... I'm sorry, I can't come to work today; my car has a virus."
"You car has a virus? Is that the best you can do? Ohh C'mon, If you want to have the day off so you can spend time with your Girlfriend just say so."
"No really, my car has a virus! I swear!"
"Why don't you give it some Airborne then?"
"It's a car it doesn't have that kind of virus?"
"What kind does it have then?"
"The integrated computer in it has a virus. I guess when I downloaded that new performance upgrade it was attached to the file or something."
"You haven't been looking up porn on your car have you?"
"Ummm..."
"Stop! I don't want to know the answer!"
"Okay... You mean that's what caused it?"
"I Said I Didn't Want to Know the Answer!"
"Sorry"
"That's horrible... I'm never gonna drive your car"
"Actually a watch it in the pas"
"Stop! No more details!... Ohh God... That's nasty... Umm.. Kid... Your fired."

:whs: is hitting close to home right now... my carPC just barfed up a lung. I'll be spending the rest of the weekend backing up and restoring the system.

I'm just waiting for G4 the "broadband" WAN to come out. Anything available right now via WAN is still too slow especially since websites are getting fancier and fancier.

I saw this feature on an Opel a few years ago. I think it had displays in the headrests.
Not sure when domestic carmakers will jump on this bandwagon.
