Hi, I've got a 91 Seville and thought the struts were goin out on the rear. Took it to a mechanic and he said the struts look fine but that he thinks there is a leak in the air ride system.... not sure where. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried putting regular struts on a car like this... is it possible or will I have problems. It just sounds like diggin into the air ride could get expensive.

Why not check it out first? Might be as simple as a broken or chaffed air line. Does the ELC compressor work? Do you hear it run when you start the car? Do you have any DTC's regarding the ELC system?

Actually not really even interested in looking into fixing the airride. I use the car for doing construction work and carry a ton of tools in the back that weighs it down. Not really concerned about maintaining the factory ride. Just want to get some decent regular shocks on there this weekend and have it ready for work on monday. Just was wondering if there will be any problems switching from the air ride struts currently on it, to the new regular struts. or if they will just bolt on with no problems and all I'll have to do is disconnect the compressor. If you know of any threads addressing this please direct me to them. Thanks to all.

I think all you will have to do is pull the ELC fuse to disable the system.

I believe there are several aftermarket shock alternatives including links you can click to off of this page, like Arnott. That said, if you can fix the air ride system and you're going to be carrying 2 tons of chit you'd be better off having the electronic level ride working for you.

yeah it can be pricey on the air ride thing i changed my struts and the shop said my compressor is dead. so i bought a compressor online ebay for 20.00 thats my next try. also the leveler could be an issue but its under the car next to the axle so your gonna have to jack it up what a pain. any luck with yours
