i have been checking around for a fuel pump for my 97 sts and i emailed brasington auto parts. they gave me a price of about 140.00 for a fuel pump module part number 88962473 is this the whole fuel pump assembly, and will i need any other parts that i should install while i have the pump out? a couple of companies said that i should replace the wiring harness? is that neccessary? why?

The fuel level sender is a separate part and judging from the price, it is not included. If yours is working OK I would not replace it. When the pump goes bad resistance increases and can burn the harness connectors I believe. If they look good I wouldn't bother replacing them. Just my $0.02

can i just reattach it to the new pump? any special tools required?

Haven't done one in years, but I don't recall any special tools needed. Other than for removing the pump retaining ring on the outside of the tank, but that can be done by lightly tapping it with a hammer and screwdriver.

Other posts I've read on this topic also recommend getting a new gasket because the old one isn't always reusable.
