Here are my current error codes and descriptions:

C1738 - Exhaust Solenoid Valve Short to GND

P0171 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1

P0174 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2

So I guess my questions are what would cause exhaust solenoid valve short to ground? Are these serious problems... and what should I do to fix them? The light came on tonight and earlier today I got gas at circle K(never have before) so, could this be bad gas or something else? Any insight to these codes/problems are appreciated!

C1738 Exhaust Solenoid Valve Short To Ground in 1998 STS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The ride height of my car has gotten mysteriously low in the past three or four days that I can't even open the pass doors while parked closed to the sidewalk. I also noticed that my ELC compressor wasn't coming on like it used to. Today when I turned my car on, the ELC came on for a second and went off. When I turned it off and on again, it didn't come on at all. The code that I get is 'C1738 - Exhaust Solenoid Valve Short To Ground.' I reset the codes several times, yet C1738 is always current. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: C1738 Exhaust Solenoid Valve Short To Ground in 1998 STS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Several easy possibilities. A 30A fuse identified as ELC in the box under the rear seat cushion. A relay in the same location identified as ELC. The chassis wiring harness that connects to the compressor might be damaged / pinched.

Or the exhaust solenoid on the compressor head has failed.

Any recent repair work in the RR wheel area?

Look for vacuum leak.
