What year Monte Carlo are you considering. I had a 2001 Monte LS before I bought the Caddy. It was a good car, but it did have a few issues which I think they worked out in the newer model. The Monte and Impala are essentially the same vehicle and both are good.

I do miss the gas mileage of the Monte though. In town I got about 19 - 20 and on the highway I got as high as 29. In the Caddy I am averaging about 14 -16 and on the highway, 20 - 24, depending on speed.

Good luck and enjoy.

I'll go as new as possible(money) I just looked through car domain website at well over 100 impalas 2000-2006,I only seen about 5 s.s. models, isn't the s.s. worth the extra money, or is the l.s. model sufficient? Thanks for your reply.

I think they are pretty equivalent. One of my sons has an 04 Impala SS and likes it. He's had it for a couple years with no major problems. My younger son has a 98 Monte, and wants to get an Impala (03 or 04) and a Mazda 3 sedan.

They're the same car...just different in looks and that one is a 2-door and the other a 4-door.

You can get deals on both, the Impala because it's heavily fleeted and the Monte Carlo because it was a very slow seller.

Just comes down to whether you want a big coupe or a same sized sedan, but either is a decent choice as far as durability and quality. Nothing astounding, but hearty vehicles overall.

montes dead after 08

It's been dead for a long time now. The last produced model year was 2007 (made the last one on June 19th of last year), but there's a ton of leftover models sitting around everywhere. There are also even 2006 models, brand new, sitting in places. Just was not a good seller, for obvious "it's a large coupe" reasons.

Yeah, we sold a brand new one (Monte Carlo) to a young lady a few months back. It's an '06, but it was never sold until I think August of last year, so it's got some lot-rot (minor rust build up in some odd places) and after finding out so, she wants us to remove it all, under GM warranty. Except GM doesn't cover lot rot. It's a headache because she's paranoid about this car, and her old Monte Carlo had a lot of intermittent electrical problems, so she traded it in on this one, fell in love with it, customized it and now she's wanting to trade it back in.

Oh, back to the original question. Definitely the 04-05 Impala SS. The Impalas, to me, always looked better than the Monte Carlos, and I'd take a 04-05 over an 06-08 because that new one looks like a damn Japanese mid level sedan, especially from the rear, where I see early '00s Altima. Plus, I'm a sucker for the Supercharged 3800.

i have a 2000 monte ss, great aftermarket, also has one of the most popular V6 engines. 00-03 MC SS has the 3.8L, 04-05 MC SS has the 3.8 supercharged, the 06-07 MC SS has the 5.3L. the impy and monte have the same frame, engine, internals, both w-bodys. the montes also have a higher gear ratio, which makes the monte faster. which do u prefer two or four doors? my monte is still in the family, my sister is driving it

If it's of any relevance, the 95-99 Monte is a nice looking car. I'd take a 98-99 Z34, after they switched from the 3.4 twin cam to the 3800.
