The delorean would be a great car to do one since some of you are doing it with the Fiero.

It has been done before and looks like a nice swap

The Fiero's engine compartment is bigger (if you eliminate the rear storage area) than the DeLorean's, especially with some of the non-engine related electronics in the DMC-12's trunk which cannot be easily moved.

No trunk mods are needed on a Fiero:D
I did, but I have seen it done without on other cars.
The trunk is strange shaped. It looks like it was designed for a spare tire.

The question of the topic.

I have a 56 Triumph TR3 I have always planned on a 6.0L LS2. Hmmmm. Now I am leaning toward the Northstar. After reading about the Shelby Series 1 and driving my Fiero with the LS1 PCM I have decided to sell my 6.0L.

I think the Best car for a Northstar would be a ............. um I am still looking. I have a spare Northstar or two, so I have been looking.
List
Sports cars

RX7: I have one and want to sell. I have own 12 of them and I can't do a swap to it.
240Z to 280Z: I have assisted on V8 swaps before. I looked at a few Rust Free cars on eBay this weekend.
Miata: Too much Ford for me. GM and FORD is a No No.
Jaguar: I don't know much about them, but it could only raise the value. Remove a SBC and install a 350hp+ Northstar.
Opel GT: I looked, but the price for a rust free is too much.
Camaro: I could see this. Buy a V6 car and do a swap.
Triumphs: TR6, TR7, TR8, They would be nice or a GT6 or a Spitfire. Yeah that would work. Very cheap parts.
Kit cars: I would say anything NOT based off a VW Bug. A Sebring MX would be nice

Big cars and Hot Rods

Any 1960 and prior GM car.
Studebaker's: a Hawk or an Avanti

Trucks

S10 2wd trucks: The Northstar would work great and be a good conversation piece.
S10 Blazer: Light weight and it will work better than a SBC
20's, 30's, 40's, 50's: truck of your choice. Any thing that has got a SBC in the past

Kit Cars can be fun.

The guy with the Mclaren on the LS1 PCM thread is planning on 700+ hp with twin turbo's

what RWD transmission can be used with the northstar? I want to build a spitfire with a different powerplant but never really considered a n*

A 700-R4 with a 2.8L bolt patter will "mostly" bolt up to a North* you need to clearance for the internal starter... This can be done "cleanly" with a die grinder and a TIG welder or you can just hack a hole.

I've always wanted to swap a N* into a Cimarron and then run 11 second quarters

I'd do it on a car that was easy to remove the engine from... in case of head gasket failure. :) On a serious note, a N* Delorean sounds like fun.

Good point... A better step would be to timesert the block while the swap engine is out...

About 1/2 of the cost of a timesert job is the Re&re of the engine the next 1/3rd is the cost of the labor to dismantle the engine insert the timeserts and put it all back together the timesert kit the head bolts and the gaskets (while not cheap) are only about 1/6 of the cost of this project.

If I were swapping a N* into ANYthing the first thing I would do is timesert the block whether it needed it or not. If you are a DIY kinda guy (and most engine swappers are) a timesert job will cost you only about $700 if buy the 'sert kit and all of the parts at OEM prices. Buy & Sell the kit on ebay and the project could be done for less then $500.

what about a manual transmission?

Ur7x

Same, any clutch/bellhousing that bolts to a 2.8L narrow angle V6 will bolt (after clearancing for the starter) to a northstar... 5 Speed trannys from late 80's S10's are a good pick.

Currently my LS1 program is only for a manual trans.

The spitfire would be the best out of that list,
The tilt front end makes it easy to do a swap and the front suspension doesnt intrude into the engine area. you would have to change the rear diff since they barely hold up to an anemic 4 cyl.
I have had two spitfires and an opel GT, the opel is a much nicer car but would be harder to swap.

I have always thought a small FWD car would be a cool sleeper. I like the Cimarron idea, I hadn't thought of that car before. I had always just had a normal GM like a cavalier or something in mind.

Hi I just found this thread through google and am very interested in your progress on this project.
I am building an Open Road Race unlimited class car. I will be building a twin turbo northstar hooked to a porsche 930 trans with the ring gear flipped to run mid engine so no tranny control would be needed .
I will be using C4 Vette hubs and spindles so I can use an abs sensor for VSS input to the pcm.
I was planning to use a megasquirt system but would rather have the reliability of a factory system if possible.
Are you planing to sell the program when you are done?? and will it work on a 96 northstar engine?
I was also born and raised in SW washington and a dealer tech since 1984.
Here is a pic of the type car I am building

http://www.mantacars.com/images/be006.jpg

and the rear suspension I will be building for it

I am shooting for a 240 mph top speed (and can actually do it legally in Nevadas Open Road Racing)

QUOTE=AJxtcman;1364219]This Program has change the way I can work with Northstar PCM's.

If I pull in some customers that have Northstars in non Cadillac's I can effort to spend money on the Cadillac Northstar PCM projects.

If we or I can raise the outlook on the Northstar by allowing for a GOOD tunable PCM that will run correctly you will see them in more hot rods. Yes 2006+ have been tuned for a few years.

This will raise the prestige of the Northstar, raise the value of a Cadillac, and may lead to people developing fixes for know issues.
Examples: Norm's Head-bolt Inserts, TimeSert Big Inserts.

Someone that is an engineer or machinist may have a project in his garage (33 Chevy or a 39 Cadillac Sixty Special or even a 1957 Eldorado Biarritz) and wants to update the chassis and drivetrain. This guy looks at a problem as a problem solver. He may design a new head gasket or intake manifold.

Corvette Guy's are installing modern Chassis and Drivtrains under older C2 and C3 cars

Fiero Guy are goofy. I am not a big fan of the car, but the guy's on the Fiero site build and design very nice stuff

Example: Russ544 has put together a Multi (8) throttle body Northstar! (http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/087315.html)

I gave a 90 4.5L away on Saturday to a Fiero guy. I took him out for a test drive in my turd aka POS fiero. He was so surprise on how smooth it was. I am running a solid motor mount system and poly griddle bushings. Yes it is still smooth not like some POS SBC
