I tried to order a locking gas cap for a 2008 SRX and was told by the Cadillac dealer that this item was not presently available.

Does anyone has a workable part number for a GM or aftermarket item.

I am concerned about having the cap compatable with the GM OBDII System, and don't really want to start seeing the Check Engine Light come on.

Thanks in advance.

Does the gas door not lock with the doors?

No the 2008 does not have a locking cover. If the 2004 has one, then it must be GM's Cost Improvement /De-content program in effect.

I bought a locking gas cap from Kragen Auto Parts (~$15) in Sou Cal after Cad dealer said "not available"; fits and works fine in our 2005 SRX N*V8; took the OEM gas cap into store, found one that looked correct (SRX was not listed on use chart), store mgr said to take & try it for few days, & return it if not work. It still works fine.

Hey Rob -- What's the brand and part number?
Thanks

Thanks laserguy. Looks like good info. I ordered one today and will report back after its received and tested out.

Many have purchased locking gas caps to prevent gas theft. Can one even siphon gas from some of the newer cars? I thought the SRX has a piece in the gas filler tube that blocks any siphon hose from reaching the gas tank. Still sounds like a good idea to prevent vandalism if nothing else.

I am not really concerned about Gas Siphoning, even though fuel is a bit expensive these days, but vandalism, and trying to put foreign material in the tank concerns me more. Once in a while I have to park the vehicle in not the best areas.

Ditto, a bit of sugar in the fuel could be disasterous!!
My locking gas cap from Kragens is: Stant #11506, cost ~$15 couple of years ago.
Good luck

SRX does not have a locking fuel door, never has.
Not sure why GM doesn't offer a locking cap for it.
I have seen a lot of locking caps cause EVAP codes, hopefully most of the aftermarket suppliers have that fixed by now.
Good luck.

ewill3rd, I should be receiving the Locking Gas cap shortly from gmpartsdirect that laserguy suggested and will try out and report back. Hopefully I won't see and Check Engine Lights with this one.

Cannot wait to see how many Ford owner's of the capless fueling vehicles will be buying locking gas caps after someone has relieved themselves into the capless system. Then there are other possibilities of vandalism that might occur.

Since some asked about a lock for the SRX spare I thought it would be good to get this back to the top.

On 1-14-08 smokiejoe posted "I ordered one today and will report back after its received and tested out."

Did you buy one smokiejoe? Anyone else purchased a locking gas cap for their SRX and is it working OK? If so, where did you get it?

So with a brand new SRX that already has a rattling exhaust pipe - see post, I also find out that it doesn't have a locking gas DOOR. What is up with that? Another Australian "improvement?" I don't think that I have driven a car in 15 years that doesn't have a locking gas door, and whammo, I now have to worry about some punk dropping sugar in my tank? What is up with Cadillac anyway?

Yes, I purchased the Gas Cap from GM Parts Direct as suggested by Laserguy. Have been using it for over a month. All is well. It works fine. Never got a Check Engine light so it seals the fuel system correctly. It is a quarter turn cap. Comes with two keys. I would recommend it. It did have to disconnect the old cap and the tether. It would not work with the Locking cap therefore is now loose not tethered. Cost was around $28.00 with shipping.

Thought I could use the ring and tether off the old cap but it does not fit. It seems the clip on the door that the tether hung on makes some contact with the gas cap. Hope it is not enough to cause a problem. Keeping the old cap in the rear storage pocket just in case I need it!

MortnCyn:

Yes, same thought here, I thought I could use the tether off the old cap, but no go since its molded in one piece and you can't remove. Anyway I usually wedge the cap in the filler nozzle or set on top of the vehicle when filling the tank. Seems a small inconvenience to prevent someone from tampering with the vehicle. Also, keeping the original cap in the back storage area so I don't lose it years from now.
