After seeing a variety of reports cropping up this afternoon, we were finally able to get some hard information regarding a recall that's affecting 313,000 passenger vehicles and crossovers from General Motors.

The recall involves a seal on the rear axle pinion that's apparently prone to leaking, which has the possibility of locking the driven wheels and causing a loss of control. GM will be recalling 2005-2007 Cadillac CTS models, STS sedans and SRX crossovers, as well as the 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice and it's platform sibling the 2007 Saturn Sky. All told, that's 275,936 vehicles in the U.S., along with around 38,000 vehicles in Canada, Mexico, the Middle East and Asia.

You're right! My 07 with 11k miles started leaking. Don't wait for recall if your vehicle is under warranty. If you loose to much fluid the differential could lock up as you mentioned and cause big problems. As far as I know the dealer is aware of this problem and already has the replacement seals in stock. Taking mine in tomorrow!

Wow I JUST got mine fixed last week on the seal! That is so funny. I knew it was a recall, just around 9000k and I got it. Now I got it fixed do i need to do anything else? My father works at the dealer and says it's ok for now.

If they replaced the seal with the old style then I would be concerned that it could leak again. Check with the dealer to see if if they replaced the seal with the new style. As far as the recall, when you receive your notice notify your dealer that you already had the work done, they might want to inspect it again.

Correct, you should wait for the recall part or you could be doing it again. When the recall is out the you know that we have the correct part.

Models: 2005-2007 Cadillac CTS, CTS-V, SRX, STS

2007 Daewoo G2X

2007 Opel GT

2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition
General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2005-2007 model year Cadillac CTS, CTS-V, SRX, STS; 2006-2007 model year Cadillac STS-V; 2007 model year Daewoo G2X and Opel GT; 2006-2007 model year Pontiac Solstice; and 2007 model year Saturn SKY vehicles. The drive axle differential seal (two on all-wheel drive vehicles) may leak because it does not meet GM's specifications. If a seal is leaking, there will be fluid on the ground where the vehicle is parked. If enough fluid leaks, the differential will become noisier because of reduced lubrication. After about two-thirds of the differential fluid is lost, the bearings may no longer be lubricated and may start to overheat. Damage to the bearings and other differential components could then occur. Damaged bearings will create noise that may be heard by the vehicle occupants. If the vehicle is not repaired and damage progresses, three conditions can occur: (1) When the vehicle is stopped and shifted to reverse, the differential may jam and prevent vehicle movement; (2) the damage can cause drag that will feel like the brake is applied; or (3) the differential could jam and lock the drive wheels while the vehicle is in motion. If (3) occurs, the driver may not be able to control the vehicle and a crash could occur without warning.

Correction
Dealers/retailers are to install a new drive axle differential seal (two on all-wheel drive vehicles).

What happens if your car doesn't match up with the numbers but think you have the above mentioned problem? For instance #50190953 05 STS4 leak in front end grinding noise while driving, other night it felt like brakes were stuck on as I drove home. Dealer say noise is normal

You could try another dealer, if there is a leak they should pinpoint it and replace whatever part is causing it, recall or not.
Lots of things up there that can leak.

Don't mention the recall just tell them that you are having problems and let them check it.

I had my recall done and afterwards I heard a loud whine/vibration coming from the rearend. Brought the car back and after a couple hours of troubleshooting, they found that the tech forgot to tighten one of the driveshaft bolts...
