View Full Version : Disapointed GM/SRX I had a 2004 V8, traded for a 2007 V6, been disapointed since then. This new 2007 has had more repairs than I care to remember. The latest is an engine noise around 55-65 mph under slight acceleration. The dealer replaced the exhaust system, tore the front differential apart...all looking for the source of the noise. A great effort on their part. A TSB explains this problem a "normal" noise, causing "no" wear to the engine, explaining to live with it....basicly. Customer Service? Where has it gone. If the $$ is right, I'm changing teams. GRRRRRRRRRRR! Well, mistake number one, going from an 8 you were happy with to a 6. Hard to believe you would ever be happy with that, regardless of how good the V6 is. :)
No V6 will be as smooth and quiet as the Northstar.
I hope they are able to find a fix for you. Good luck! hear hear Todd.
I had an 04 V6. Went to an 06 V8. I can't amagine going back to a V6.
No comparision.
Lack of customer service would not have got you a new exhaust, and the front diff investigated.
Hate to loose ya. But life is too short to be miserable. Good luck. :thepan:YES!.... it was the biggest mistake of the year going from the V8 to the V6. The Norhstar engine was the best. I had this grand thought that the gas mileage with the V6 would be so much more than the V8. WRONG ON THAT ONE!! Found out that 6, 2 less than 8 didn't get me much further down the road. Probably no more than 1 - 1.5 miles/gal. and alot of zippppp when you wanted it. Live and learn ;) Speaking of v-8 engines. In !996?, I test drove the new northstar and the old V-8 that was still being used in two brand new sedan devilles. No contest. The northstar seemed like a race engine compared to the old V-8 in the exact same deville. That experience was an eye opener and I always remember it. The northstar was a techno marvel beast in 1996. That's one reason I bought SRX V8. Are you sure this is not the timing chain issue that a lot of V6 '07s are having?
Also my 04 had bad camshafts that caused a whirring sound. Your logic was not bad - don't be too hard on yourself. As you said, Live and learn. Yesterday at about 5:30 AM, I was clearing my driveway of snow when my neighbor left his house in his 08 CTS. Being a very quiet part of the day, I heard everything very clearly. As I heard the V6 buzz off, I thought "Note to self - Northstar next time." Do you know if it was the direct injection engine? Do you know if it was the direct injection engine?
I don't believe so. No it is not direct injection. I picked the car up from the dealer today....no further progress made from last week. New exhaust system...no change, checked front differential...checked out ok....no change, checked harmonic balancer...did not have recallable part (6 spoked)...no change. However, the noise is still present. At highway speeds, under slight acceleration or with the cruise set, the sound is present (hiss, ie pinging sound) If I turn the cruise off and coast to a slower speed (to 45-50mph) the sound remains present until it eventually disappears or is inaudiable. I can do the same highway speed, take my foot off the pedal and put the car in neutral and the sound disappears immediately. Placing the car in park and turning the same RPM's, the sound is not present, placing the car in drive and brake torqeing to the RPM level doesn't even produce the sound. Would this sound be characteristic of a bad / blocked.... cat. converter? I know that there are no codes being produced by the cat. converter but does that proove it is not faulty in other aspects? HELP! Another question for the masses.....!
Is there an "air pump" for the fuel injectors, I thought I might check that...might be a "sucking" sound instead of an exhaust sound...Grasping for straws...might even remove the air filter to check the effects of that on the sound.
Thanks for ANY input! "hiss, i.e. pinging sound"? Now I'm really confused. In my mind, those are two totally different sounds. Yes, I'm confused too! The sound is so distant sounding it is difficult to describe. You might even throw in a rattle sound too. I'm waiting for the opportunity to get it up on a rack so that I can look at the heat shields. A possibility is that at hwy speeds the torqe of the engine is enough to put one of the exhaust shields close enough to something to give me the "sound". Grasping for solutions....yes! The trade-in value of a loaded '07 with 12,000 on it is not enough for me to get out of it, into another w/V8. Find it, Fix it, and be happy meanwhile. Thats what my wife told me!:) MortnCyn 01-05-08, 02:59 PM Or you could turn the radio up real loud. I have an 06' V6 SRX and just got an 08' V8 SRX, don't like driving the 6 anymore. :( | |
