Ok so heres the issue
my dad wants to be able to cycle through his presets on his steering wheel on his 2005 STS however since he has the heated wheel he doesnt have the preset button and of course he is to anal to give up his heated wheel to revert it back to a preset cycle button. However on a 2008 STS there are 6 buttons on the wheel which includes a heated wheel button and a preset button. If i was to get a complete 2008+ column complete with bag and all could i add integrate it with the 2005? I have all the connector end views for a 2005 but i do not for a 2008. Thanks alot.

Sorry I am late.
I am not sure that is do-able.
For one thing I know that in '08 we have gone to a new design steering position sensor, the connectors are different. I think also that the steering wheel mounting has changed. I saw on a CTS that the wheel is held on by a torx bolt rather than the 13/16 nut they have used for 40+ years.
I don't think the stuff would plug in.

If you know the resistance value of the switch he wants you could wire something up in the car or install a resistor in the circuit somehow to transform another button into the function he wants. The radio is looking for a set resistance for a command, if you can match it you can make it do what you want.

They really changed up this stuff for '08 on STS and CTS.

what about swapping just the wheel i assumed changing the column was easier apparently not, could i install a newer wheel and rewire it to the stock plugs?
also hows the car know if you have a heated wheel vs a 1-6 preset selector, is there deference in wiring or is it a tech 2 thing?

I haven't had to pull one off yet, not sure how interchangeable they are.
I'd have to do some serious schematic scouring to answer most of the rest of those questions.

lol yuh i figured
and thats alot to ask of you
if i can add factory nav to a non nav Seville
im sure i can do this swap..
just will take alot of wiring discerning.... again...
thanks Bill!

Bump this sometime tomorrow. I think we might be slow.
I'll look over the button schematics and see what it looks like.

Here is the '08 Schematic for the audio controls.

Compare this to what you have on the '05 schematics.
There is new nomenclature in the schmatics.

C277 is now X277, but it looks like it might be the same connector.
It might work but you'd have to do some disassembly to see if the pieces are interchangeable, plus you might have air bag connection issues.

thats right
the bags ARE different...
in that even idk if i want to risk it
if something ever happened and the bag didnt deploy and he well you get the idea
idk not worth the risk

You might be able to wire in a button he can reach somewhere convenient that will do what he wants, if you can figure out the resistance value and find a place convenient to put it.

i could
but his whole thing is he wanted it on the wheel lol
i swear to god hes my father but he is a priss that he cant even reach up to change from preset to preset

this should be interesting...
