I recently purchased a '07 STS Lux model and must say that the driver memory system appears to test the mettle of IBM's top programmer. I have spent hours trying to program the favorite settings for my wife and me (Driver 1 & 2).
I believe I have determined that automatic recall of programmed settings is available ONLY for DRIVER 1. DRIVER 2 has to turn on the radio, press "CONFG," go to "SETUP" and manually recall DRIVER 2's settings.
Am I correct? If so, this seems to be a step backward from my '07 DTS which has the two buttons (Driver 1 and Driver 2) which are very easily programmed.
The STS owner's manual is of very little help.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Welcome Dave. No that's not correct. It will automatically recognize Driver 1 or 2 based on the key fob. Is there any chance your fob 2 is a replacement? e.g., dealer lost fob 2 and what you have now is really fob 3 to the car (even if there's a 2 printed on it).

Exactly, it works perfectly if you(1) have your key fob on you and she(2) has hers with her. Even if she gets into the car 1st on the passenger side and everything goes to her settings, when you enter on the drivers side it will usually override hers. But if it doesn't, just press any button on your key fob and it will.

This is my problem also. Key FOB 1 was lost and the dealer provided a new one. However when the new FOB was programed it was entered into the system as FOB #3, and from what I have learned is that only FOB 1 & 2 retain memory settings. This can be corrected by the dealer who has to reset both FOB's. I don't think they charge alot for this service and maybe they won't charge anything.

I was wondering about that, when I was told that if I (Fob 1) and my wife (Fob 2) were in the car together, the setting would default to Fob 1.
Since my wife and I share the driving on long trips, I was wondering whether I'd have to put mine in a lead-lined box when she was driving .
Are you saying she can press any button on her fob and the car's settings will revert to Fob 2?

There is not default to fob 1. This is a really well thought out system. Even if there is another fob in the car or someone entering the car with a fob on the passenger's side, the car still recognizes the fob with the person opening the driver's door and sets up all of the memory settings unique to that fob. There are separate antennas in both front door handles and the system keys in on the fob nearest the driver's door handle to set up the memory recall. No need to press any buttons on the fob at all. If it is not working that way then the memory settings were not stored correctly, or either fob 1 or fob 2 were replaced and the replacement fob was programmed incorrectly.

All the problems I encountered with apparantly erractic memory settings were the result of me pushing the wrong buttons on the touch screen. The damn thing is just like a computer. It doesn't do what you want it to do. It does what you tell it to do.
