View Full Version : The Weakest Link

So every car has a weakest link in the powertrain. In the first V's it was the diffs and halfshafts. In the 2006's and 2007's I'm not sure what it is, since the tiny tires inhibit any serious power actually getting to the ground, and the diffs seem to be holding up.

So what will the weak powertrain link be on the new V?

I'm betting it will be the trans, and that we will not hit it until the serious power add levels.

Hello,
Well if they use the Hydra-Matic 6L80 Transaxle for the auto, then I would venture to say that you might have to look somewhere else for the weak link.

Type: Six speed rear-wheel-drive, electronically controlled, automatic overdrive transmission with torque converter clutch. Clutch-to-clutch architecture with integral electro/hydraulic control module

Engine Range: 4.4L-6.2L

Max Gearbox Torque: 664 lb.-ft.

Weight: 225 lbs.

Assembly Site: Ypsilanti, Michigan

Hopefully Caddy learned their lesson with the previous V model and have addressed the diff issues of past. But time will tell. It might be too early to speculate as the information is still incomplete at this time.

Thanks,

Weak link "Trans" You did specify if you were referring to a manual(6) or automatic; the tremec56 has gone through a more robust evolution as it is now featured in the 08 600HP SRT Viper. I doubt that will be the weak link. Road tests are very position on the improvements.........

I will bet money that Tom Stephens engineered more margin into this differential. Which trans is on the Trailblazer SS that the truck guys are blowing up? I agree the tremec is pretty rugged.
