The gf and I are wanting to go on a mini-vacation as our christmas present to each other. We're both taking vacation time from January 20-26. On a budget, so trying to keep it around five hundred per person, plus food.

Spew forth the contents of your collective brains!

Do you both have your Passports? If so, I always recommend to people the gorgeous, wonderfully warm island of Jamaica. We fly down a few times a year and we absolutely love it... we've honestly never found a better place in the Caribbean. I know a lot of people have misconceptions about the island, of course there are some undesirable areas but it's like that anywhere you go. In reality, as long as you go no where near the southeastern part of the island (ie - Kingston), you're not going to have any problem. The beaches are pristine, the waters - crystal clear and a shade of blue rivaled only by that of the sky, and the lush, green mountains dominate the landscape. The food is fantastic as are the drinks (Red Stripe baby, oh yeah!). If you have an open mind, you'll find that he natives are generally a warm and inviting people... they are great to talk to, they're very laid back and just love to live life, and it is a good life - despite being very different from our own. I know that air and hotel packages used to be very reasonable but I'll have to check on them. We love it there so much that a few years ago my brothers, their respective wives, and the wife and I actually bought some property down there just outside of Ocho, so it's been a while since we've had to book more than airfare. We do rent it out to friends occasionally when none of us or our family is staying down there, so if you're interested I can check with my sister-in-law to see if anyone is going to be down there that week, if nobody is I could probably set you up. It's really nice, set up on the hill away from everybody and looks down over the cove... the only people there are a nice older couple that lives in the cottage out back, we met and became friends with them quite a few years ago, we let them stay there in exchange for them looking after and keeping up the property. So, yeah... just let me know and I'll see what I can do!

AMG, pm sent.

We were thinking Vegas...and it is really cheap and easy to get airfare and hotels there...BUT Vegas gets real expensive real quick. We're looking for something a bit more romantic and out of the ordinary than hammered casino going...not that we don't have fun doing THAT too! :)

Thinking about a cruise too but everytime she's cruised before she gets seasick the first two days until she adapts so we're probably going to avoid that.

Ever get up to WA? Snoqualmie Falls (http://www.snoqualmiefalls.com/) is pretty nice. I've never stayed there but visited the falls several times on business trips. There are some locals on the forum who could probably say whether or not this is a good suggestion.

How about Palm Springs? The Bob Hope golf tournament ends on the 20th, so the town should clear out some. Just pick your hotel carefully as there are some that cater to a number of alternative lifestyles.
