View Full Version : Should I get rid of my 2004 SRX prior to warranty expiration? DaveSRX 12-14-07, 01:54 PM My wife and I have a 2004 V8 AWD SRX which we both love, however, we are thinking ahead to the future when the vehicle is out of its 5yr/60K warranty. We are at 42K miles now.
We are worried that this car will be awefully expensive to maintain out of warranty. Does anyone have any experience with an SRX out of warranty (over 60K miles)? Should we dump the car soon. Can I get an extended warranty right before the warranty expires and how much would it cost?

May want to check with the GM warranty folks BEFORE the 4 year 50,000 bumper to bumper warranty expires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Hard, if not impossible, to get a GM extended warranty after that warranty expires.

I plan to buy the extended warranty (probably add 5 years) and keep my 2005 AWD at least until the extended warranty expires. I think you have a 4 year / 50,000 mile warranty. Not 5 year / 60,000. Better check on it.
I would get the GMPP, Major Guard.
Jim DVC-Don 12-15-07, 10:15 AM I bought the GMPP, Major Guard for the wifes SRX just before the 50,000 mile mark was met. Shop around, I found the best deal from a GM dealer in Penn. Not only was it much cheaper than my dealer here in NY was willing to sell it for, there was no sales tax. I am at 49000 miles, probably will buy the GMPP plan within the next week.
I've been having some serious issues with my AC. My last shop visit would have been $3200 if not for the warranty. For me it's a no brainer.
Good luck Dump it and get another one.
Inventories are at 108 days, and the new ones have less probs than the '04s.
My '04 had the fiberglass insulation in the mufflers blow out at 31K miles.
The exhaust parts alone cost GM $1400. I don't know what the labor cost was. King3244 12-15-07, 08:45 PM search this forum for extended warranty.....there are a couple of gm dealers that sell gmpp at a discount. z06bigbird 12-16-07, 01:07 AM Try some of the preferred vendors here--Fitchner Chevolet on northwest coast, a Caddy dealer in Ebensburg, Pa, etc. Do a search here or on Corvette forum. You will save tons of money, not just a few hundred dollars. DaveSRX 12-18-07, 02:51 PM OK, so I just found out my warranty was over on 11/13/07. I was also told by the Cadillac dealer that I could not now qualify for a GM warranty, but could get an aftermarket one. I am guessing the aftermarket ones are pricey.
I guess it is time to sell... compfan03 12-20-07, 03:32 PM Is it really OK to purchase a warranty from a distant dealer? I have heard stories of dealers in my area (Northeast) who will not service cars that were not purchased at the dealer. I don't want to save on the extended warranty only to find that my dealer will not be there for me. I love my 04 SRX and part of the love affair is a local dealer who has always insured excellent service.
Can you please tell me about your experience about purchasing from a distant dealer and utilizing local service. |
