Aside from Cadillacs which engine sounds do you like the most ?
Lamborghini Murcielago and Bugatti Veyron ties imo lol .In fact these two are completely different characteristics therefore you hear inmiscible resonances but it's really hard to pick up one

Oh god, this could go on for a while...

V8's
Northstar, especially the early ones. The later ones just got so quiet.
Cadillac 4.1, 4.5, 4.9 (raspy, muscular, crisp....mmmm)
TBI 350 (I dunno why, but those TBI's just had this real rough and edgy sound, that none of the other 350s had)
Ford 351 used in the 93-95 Lightning
Infiniti's 4.5L quad cam V-8 (especially Jesda's Q with the straight pipes)
Mercedes 5.0L DOHC V8

Six Cylinders
Nissan 3.0L & 3.5L V6
V6 SHO
Merc 3.2L I-6
BMW 2.5L & 3.0L I-6

Four Cylinders
Nissan 2.5L
Ecotec 2.0L Supercharged

Diesels
GM 6.5L Turbo Diesel!!!! (very, very rough sounding engine...sounds like a gas motor with a rod knock. Even the starter on these sounds badass)
Cummins 5.9L I-6 Turbo Diesel

This car was made in 1953, is 1.5l and produces 550-600HP.
The car is owned by a British rock star and when he puts it on the track the locals report it can be clearly head 5-7 miles away. He commissioned his production company to make these recordings and it was extremely difficult because the recording equipment, normally used for rock concerts, was driven into saturation. Play this with a first class surround system turned as loud as it will go and you'll only scratch the surface of what it really sounds like. This machine has been world famous since its appearance on the F1 scene, driven by Juan Fangio, as being the most beautiful sounding car ever made. On the track the car was almost impossible to pass because the exhaust was so painfully loud to the overtaker.

Hey everyone...new to the forum so this is my first post. I too could go on and on, but here are my favoites that you actually see on the road.

You're going to laugh at this first one, but I'm a fan. I own a '93 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. It's the turbo model for those that don't know. With a larger exhaust and especially with cams, the sound is awesome...for me anyway. It doesn't sound like all the Hondas you see with a muffler slapped on to the factory exhaust.

Another one is a 4.6l Mustang...can't have a side exhaust though becuase you lose the sound.

The last one would have to be the Cummins Turbo diesel...from the factory they sound great, but then you add a huge exhaust and it's bad ass!

My favorite exotic is Farrari...don't really know which model has what engine, I just know when I hear one and see one.

Hmmm, I don't know about favorites... there is a lot.

All I am stuck listening to is a 2.6L Isuzu I4 with cracked exhaust manifold and rattling exhaust clamp (basically nothing to take a sound clip of) Of course, that is when it ran....

Or an Oldsmobile 307 that runs OK with a hole in the cat. conv. so its loud.... but not a good loud (still not sound clip worthy)

Or, the Ford 4.6 in the Town Car with true dual exhaust, I'll admit, it has an awesome sound to it, though it is quiet, kinda sounds like a mellow Mustang... go figure ;).... WOT still gives a nice American V8 growl.... though taking away from that is the sound coming from the engine that sorta sounds like light pinging, but it's not... maybe timing chain against guide? I dunno, it bugs me, but its only under WOT.... oh well, 1 vehicle is down tho, thats enough for now.

I am definitely biased, but I'll post my reply anyway.

The TBI 4.5 has, as Chad said, a raspy yet throaty growl as the RPMs wind up to the red line. It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. Also, the six cylinder Mercedes turbo diesels sound awesome at full throttle.

My mom aint so thrilled, but on the other hand, i think she will be if she gets the caddy. For gods sake, her and that car, its like stealing candy from a kid.

She says the motor reminds her of her old 454 chevelle (scary).

Also, when the PCM had to be reflashed, apparently i have a l37, I AM pretty sure of it from the snooping i did.

Although, the TRS was replaced as well and i dont like my DTRs going off in park.

They will agree, change the plugs.

I thought it was too, so I ran premium (93) in it two tank fulls, cause it normally runs on 87. Nothing changed.

Heh, plugs have been changed... twice... that car may as well be brand new cause I've replaced almost every normal maintenace or wear item on it!

First time I did a tune up I got Ford Motorcraft fine wire platinums, like $6/each..... well in my hunt to try and improve the gas mileage, cause I didn't think it was getting what it should, everyone said, no, regular Autolite coppers.... alright, so I swapped out the platinums that were in there for about 5k miles and put the regular Autolite coppers in.... seemed to run a tad smoother, but no other big differences.

I just put a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner in the full gas tank, its about the only magic in a bottle I'll use, cause it works... that and Seafoam, and Lubeguard.

Anyway, the 4.6 has a knock sensor, so even if it was pinging, the computer should retard the timing.

Like I said, I really haven't looked into it.... now I've heard of other people with 4.6's complaining about the same thing... apparently it isn't anything that really bothers the engine... but it still bugs me.

Of course the Northstar is the top for me, nothing has a throaty roar and hits the redline with such a sweet sound. I also like the sound of the CTS' 3.6 V6; not as beautiful as the N*, but still has a sound that I love listening to. GM's 5.3 small block V8 sounds good reguardless of what vehicle it's in. My grandpa has it inside an '06 Impala SS, and my mom has one inside her '05 Yukon XL. Another engine I like is my Camry's 2.2L 5S-FE. Yeah it's slow and the technology is old, but it is an extremely refined engine and has a nice little sound to it. It's much better than the later 2.4L 4-cylinder that Toyota uses. That engine is extremely loud, and idles like a bitch.

ryannel2003

The current Camry is a beautiful car. However, the quality that made Toyota famous just isn't there. The V6 models have had many issues with transmission flares, and the 4 cylinder models have had issues with a pause in acceleration. The interior's, while stylish, are made with cheap material that would fit better inside a old Chevy Malibu than a Toyota. I have considered getting a new Camry, but with the downgrade in many areas I would rather keep my car and wait to find a Seville that suits me better than another Camry.

My friend's dad has 3 or 4 of them now... When we were teenagers we used to go out on his first one (that was a long time ago...) and in 5th at 120 mph it would pop a wheelie all too easy!!!

Frankly, the vid of the Northstar on the first page would have been much nicer without the heavy-breathing, foul-mouthed kid dropping the f-bomb six times in less than 50 seconds. Seriously... since when has language like that become so passe that it's thrown around with such disregard? Maybe it's just that I hate that word... it's as vulgar as it is cheap. If I drop it once a year then that's a lot... and everyone knows when I do, I'm beyond steamed. It's plain unattractive, and says a lot about someone who uses in regular conversation... let alone every other word.

ANYWAY... the Northstar does sound nice, but it's certainly not the best out there as it's a little too refined, although it's perfect for it's application.

The Ford 4.6L has nothing on the old 302.

I also love the burble my old 360 still kicks out, absolutely love it - that was part of the reason I fell in love with the GW... I swear, every time I really open her up I can hear the Star-Spangled Banner playing ever so slightly in the exhaust note!

Probably two of the best sounding engines in production right now are the LS and watch out Chrysler-phobes, but I love the sound of the new Hemis.

The recent Mopar V8's have always sounded good..the 5.2, 5.9, 4.7, 5.7...they all have just that quintessential pushrod big block sound, even more so for the 4.7, which is funny because that's an OHC motor.
