View Full Version : Cadillac SRX - wind noise on Ultraview Sunroof

Hello everybody,

Let me first introduce myself. I live in Germany and have been driving American cars for many years. None of those cars had any major troubles so far. Now I own a Cadillac SRX (build 2005) that drives me nuts. I have the model with the huge Ultraview Sunroof.

The dealer has just exchanged this glass thing for the third time (!!!)
because of those dreadful wind noises I get when driving at speeds higher
than 80 miles an hour. To no avail. I am desperately looking for a
practical solution.

It seems that a kind of uplift effect (like on the wing of a plane) pulls
the glass roof upwards at higher speeds and so to come off the rubberfoam
seals, thus creating the wind noise. The machanic says the glass roof may be
bent and there are no adjustable screws or alike to make it press more
firmly down onto the seals. So he exchanges the whole thing just again. The car is still on warranty.

Does anybody know how to fix this problem permanently?

Andreas

Wish I could drive 80 mph frequently without getting a speeding citation!
I would strongly suspect that the roof is lifting due to internal air pressure
via the ventilation system rather than uplift like an airplane wing.
Try setting the air circulation to recirculate and let us know if that makes a difference.
Even if the air system is off there is still outside air coming into the cabin so recirculate is the only way I know to close off outside air entry.
Incidentally, you have a dealer that is unbelievable.
Replacing the roof is a major undertaking. Three TIMES ! ! WOW !!!

Our 2005 SRX N*V8 with standard UltraView - not the extra UV that covers the third seat - does not seem to exhibit any lifting or excessive air noises - with a/c on or off - at California freeway speeds in the range of and maybe even a bit faster than that where you seem to be having problems; but then we have not tested for the phenomenon at autobahn speeds which may approach ~ 130 mph.
Has your dealer tried to replace the rubber seals? Seem that our seals are not foam rubber, but a stiffer more vinyl like material.
Has your vehicle had any damages to the roof or roof support?? Does your seal leak water in a heavy rain or car wash??
Maybe you could test your "lifting concept" by adding one of those front end "air/ bug deflectors" that are supposed to be designed to deflect the air stream upwards.
Good luck, keep us posted.
