Well it shouldn't be that difficult... I assume they used the Supra Tranny so thats easy and then the motor will need new motor mounts fabricated... The rest is pretty self explanatory. I assume that the engine wiring is pretty much a stand alone unit... aside from the wiring for the inside gauges... The supra motor should come with its own ECU and the only thing I would worry about is the ABS and TC that are controlled by or with the engine...

The wiring is the only thing that is stopping me from doing it. Also you can get an IS Lexus motor and turbo that as those will be easier to find...
Can you imagine blowing the doors off of one of those Supras and then simply telling the guy that you got the same motor... LOL Should be interesting to see the faces of many of the ones that wont even suspect it..

This is the same joint that created the Mystery Omega Caravan (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-catera-cimarron-forum/123634-mystery-omega-caravan.html).

I wish we had Catera artists like them over here. :worship:

I don't trust some of the guys around here to do a simple oilchange. :tisk:

Maybe we could convince a couple of these experts to come here and set up shop. :welcome:

That would work... all we need is a couple Work Visas and then a bunch of people that want motor swaps... and don't mind paying a little extra for something super ordinary. Next thing you know the value of our cars will go up cus of the potential they got...

As much as I like my V6, what I'd love to have under the hood of my Catera is a Turbo Diesel 6 backed by a 5 or 6 speed manual box. With gas prices skyrocketing burning a kerosene/Crisco blend sounds like a good idea. Diesel torque at low RPM and turbo boost at high RPM plus the savings at the pump sounds like a win, win, win.

No doubts about that but I think that the Diesel swap in a GAS car will be a little harder as I am sure there are a ton of other things involved... In fact you will be better off to bring over a Diesel Car from Europe and then swap out all the parts in your Catera that way you will have all the components and you wouldnt have to worry about fabrications etc...

Cost is around 500$ to ship on a boat and then the price of the vehicle... So maybe then you can have a real Omega.. HEHEHE... That would be freaking fantastic.

That's exactly what I meant. Europe has diesel Omegas. Why couldn't Cadillac have given us a choice of engines? Then we'd have had a Catera TD with no need for swapping or fabricating anything.

I don't think we can import a TD Omega here. It wouldn't get past Customs with not being EPA certified. It probably is as clean or cleaner than diesels already here but unless it's passed Federal emissions tests it will just sit on the dock.

Well I heard there was a way to get cars in as parts only and lets say you remove the motor and throw it in the trunk or something... then import it swap out your parts and many states dont even make you go to checkups so if you happen to live in one of those you will be a lucky man. MI is one of those states, people around here even remove their cats... no one ever checks for them. So running such a car here would be very doable... also no one cares about the engines swapped in your ride. Also I think there is a way to bring cars over under special circumstances because I had a friend whos dad imported an RS4 from Europe a few years ago and he just had to pay a bunch of fees to get it legalized and I think they still have it. I know that same guy got a R34 Skyline later but ended up crashing it a few weeks after delivery. SAD Story.

Catera TD would be freaking awesome... with lets say 180hp and 350ft.lb Torque... that would be freaking sick... and probably 30mpg at least...

I live in NY, second only to CA in bureaucracy gone mad. I spent $160 on a Scangauge partly so I could erase any codes that pop up right before I hand over the car for inspection. Once they scrape the sticker off you're at their mercy. I have an intermittent code for an EGR leak. That could cost $1000 before the idiots find the cause.

I almost bought a 2004 VW Passat diesel before buying the Catera. It was in good shape but I didn't like the color or how it was optioned. Plus, it was a VW. Where's the cachet in that?
