I have ATT as my cell phone provider. I really like my SRX but cannot believe there is no bluetooth in my loaded 2008 SRX. I understand that you can get service from Verizon as an extra line, but not ATT. Is this accurate? Am I stuck buying overpriced minutes from Onstar as my only choice?

Thanks

You can add your onstar phone to a verizon family share plan. It would use your minutes from your verizon plan. Going back to the day when people had a car phone. blue tooth should be standard, or at least an option, for the entire 2009 line.

Onstar uses the Verizon network - goes back to the days when Verizon had the only true nation-wide system (analog). The cellular radio is CDMA, and therefore not compatible with the ATT network (TDMA).

For $10/mo you can add your Onstar phone to your Verizon share plan and pool the minutes as noted above. I have both vehicles set up this way. When I get in one of the cars, I forward my cell phone to the Onstar number for that vehicle and all calls come in via Onstar. I can dial out using onstar, or using my bluetooth headset paired with my phone, basicaly giving me two lines out and one line in. Calls between two "In" phones on the Verizon network are air-time free.

I don't really miss bluetooth at all set up this way.

So if I don't have Verizon, but do have ATT, I am left with buying ONSTAR minutes. What is the cheapest way to buy minutes. Any thoughts?

thanks

CORRECT. No cheap way either - some discount in bulk, but they all expire one year from date of purchase I believe.

Jim: Call up onstar, tell them you are cancelling service b/c you are pissed that your minutes will expire. Tell them the only reason you have the Onstar is for the phone service in case of emergency . They will do something for you. Get right thru the prompts to the "I want to cancel" people. Also, tell them you don't want to pay any more than 12.95 per month. Good luck.

Save 100% like I did----Just cancel the entire thing and use your cell phone.

Call and fuss at them.... maybe buy the smallest package of minutes they have .... that will renew "ALL" of your minutes for another year. Just did that.

You're lucky.

Up here in Canada, we have to pay $18/month to pool our minutes, using Bell Mobility (CDMA). No wonder why some consumers are complaining that our cell phone plans are amongst the most expensive in the world!

As Superjim points out, maybe another option is to buy a big package upfront in order to pay less by the minute, and roll it over 12 months by adding the cheapest package available.

I also miss Bluetooth in my 2008 SRX by the way..

Mike.

I had a hard time justifying paying $25/month so I can use my Verizon minutes I already pay for. To use it you have to:

1. Pay $15/month for OnStar with zero minutes;
2. Pay $10/month for the extra phone line to Verizion.

I was wondering if anyone has tried adding a bluetooth adapter to the system via the XM radio inputs? Might be able to do if you add in the iPod adapter?

Just wondering as there really should be away to do this.

If you buy new minutes from Onstar before the old minutes expire, they carry over. So for $13 or so I will carry over almost 150 minutes. No brainer.

I pay 12.99 for Onstar. 9.99 for Verizon. Total price well worth it to me.
