This past Thursday I attended the New England Auto Show in Boston. It was quite the spectacle. A huge expo center, filled to the brim with the latest and (supposedly) greatest that all the big names had to offer.
Highlights of the show included the Dodge Challenger concept, and a professionally restored 65 Coupe DeVille. I wish I had pictures, but I forgot my camera.
I spent all night looking at new cars, smelling new cars, and sitting in new cars.I sat in a few new DTSs and whatnot. They weren't too bad.
Anyway, then I got home, and saw my car sitting in the driveway, and it was such a great feeling. I realized that the automotive market just ain't what it used to be. For the heck of it I got in my car and sat down, and I gotta tell you, NEVER has my car been so comfortable. After a whole night of experiencing what passes for an interior these days, sitting back in my seats was like heaven. New cars are awful. The seats are hard and formed, and the windshield meets the roof only an inch or so from your forehead (if you're a taller guy like me) even with the seats all the way back. When you get into an older Cadillac, you actually get INTO it. New cars feel more like they're AROUND you, like some sort of tiny escape pod.
I have to admit, every now and then I wonder what it would be like to own a new car, everything pristine and with the latest technology, but it doesn't take me long to come back to my senses and realize where my true automotive passions lie.
Anyone out there with a great RWD Cadillac, be thankful that's what you drive, and not something else!
