Hello everyone,
I was wonding is it possible to retrofit a V6 STS with stock cadillac V8 Xenon. I know its possible to use an aftermarket kit but i would rather have OEM setup. I know for sure the headlight assembly is different and i know the bulbs are different but what else will we need to make this work on a V6. Thanks

Good question. I have a 2007 V8 STS that didn't come with Xenon, and I would like to retro fit mine as well.

Hi 05lover,
I have on my V8 export model xenons standard and the export V6 also have them standard. If you say your sure that the light assembly is different than you have to change the complete light housing, if not, I would check this out at a Cadillac-dealer, just change the bulbs.
Xenon light is much better than regular lights!!!!

Well I did some research and i can confirm that housings are the same. Xenon option housing comes with the ballast for the xenon light already attached to the housing itself. My next question that im trying to answer is if I buy the housing with the included ballast and bulb will it be plug and play with the V6 light harness or is it different????? Does anyone by chance have a picture of the rear of the xenon housing and harness by any chance????

Yes you are able to get the original OEM HID Setup from the V8 STS and incorporate it with the V6. I was going to do that and with my fathers GM price it was still expensive (200 for each light so 400 all together) so I went along and got aftermarket, here's a pic (headlights are 4500k and fogs are 8000k). However if you do get the OEM setup it will come with everything (ballasts, harness, etc.) My headlights in person resemble the V8 STS exactly!

BTW If you choose aftermarket go for the Top PSI HID set from Top PSI, he is a vendor on this and his products are very good!

Hey thanks for the info very useful. Ya coloring is usually 4300k to 5000k but STS is 4300k im pretty sure of that. The best color I've seen yet is the 6500K which is very rare to come across but owned a pair once. But i need to replace my passenger headlight and thought why not get factory.

Well I finally went ahead and bought a xenon headlight asse. This is what I found out the harness fits but the plugs dont match. so after taking apart the assembly and reconfiguring the plug on the bottom of it I was able to match up assembly pins with harness wiring. (If anyone would like the procedure please let me know). Vola it worked. But when i turn on the light there is an inital blast of light then it dims twice then stablizes in intnesity. I dont know why it dims after the inital blast but thats my next project.

If they brighten up to full brightness within about 5 seconds, then that's the way they work. There is an initial high voltage to spark the light, then the voltage backs off and the lights brighten up as the bulb "warms up". They work the same way in both our STS4 and our STS-V which were equipped with them from the factory.

ya its really bright when i flip the switch then it dims. But even when it dims its very bright. Im pretty happy with going factory and doing a simple mod rather then the aftermarket.

Hey CadillacSTS2003,
I dont mind making a how to step by step with pictures to share. But i must say it may take a day or two. As fast as getting the xenon this is what i would personal suggest. Look on ebay or car-parts.com for a xenon assembly. Another suggestion i would make is if your current head lights are in good condtition you can get the xenon assemblies for cheap if there are scratched up. This is okay because you can switch compnents from the bad assemebly to the good one. You can probably snatch up a set for about $500. But if you want to resell your halogen assemblies on ebay i would make sure to by xenon in good shape. Hopefully I will get my passenger side xenon today in the mail then ill be able to take pictures and make a how to. Goodluck

Factory Xenon Swap on 05-08 Cadillac STS
By: 05lover

Remember this is just a how-to that I made up and nothing is guaranteed so please do this at your own risk and expense for I am not responsible for anything that goes wrong.

1. You will need to purchase 2 sets of Cadillac STS xenon headlights. They don’t have to be left and right just
2 sets. I suggest looking at www.car-parts.com or www.ebay.com or www.gmpartsdirect.com you should find them around $200 or so. You really shouldn’t worry about the condition of the housing of this used xenon you’re only interested in the ballast and bulb and making sure they are in working condition. Buying a crappy assembly with good working innards will allow you to save $$ because the parts can be taking off the crappy housing and placed on your cars good housing. (TIP) if the used housing is in good condition you can place it back on eBay after this project and sell it as a non-xenon headlamp and make some $$ back.
2. Gather all your tools: 7mm socket, a good screw driver, and a bunch of tooth picks.
3. Remove headlights from your car and use a soft work area to do work on. Start be removing the access panels located on the side and back of the housing for all headlights (yours & xenon).
4. Next you will want to take out the wiring harness in the housings. Start by unplugging all lamps then turn the housing to the side and turn the female plug on the bottom of the housing clockwise I think. Push the plug up into the housing and remove the harness out the side of the housing. For the xenon lights just unplug the ballast and set aside.
5. After removing the wire harness you will need to make a decision. A) Your going to use your housing and place the xenon components inside your current assembly or B) Your going to use the xenon housing that you bought.
6. If your choose A proceed to step 7 if you choose B skip step 7 and proceed to step 8
7. Start off by unscrewing the two screws that hold the housing for the halogen lamp and removing it. This is the top circle. Then do the same with the xenon light making sure not to remove the two screws that hold the bulb in and being very careful. Once the xenon housing is removed place it directly in the good housing and screw back up. Do the same for the halogen housing.
8. Now as you see the wiring harnesses are similar but different sequence. To make this work you will need to make the xenon harness look like the non-xenon harness. First take a toothpick or anything thin and pointy. Then from the opposite side of the plug (the side with the wires coming out of it) pop off that clear plastic guard.
9. We now need to rearrange the plug order to look like the non-xenon harness. Now this part takes patients and is tricky but if you look at an empty plug site you will see a plastic piece just hanging in the middle. This piece allows for the metal plug to be held in place. Using a toothpick you will need to come from the front end of the plug (the side that doesn’t have the wires sticking out) and try to move this plastic piece downwards while gently pulling on the wire itself to release the metal plug. This will take time and patients if you break the plastic piece then you will have a loose plug and that’s not good. (TIP) practice on and empty plug site that will not be used. This will help you to get a feel for it.10. Once you have completed rearranging the xenon harness to look like the non-xenon harness make sure the plugs are not loose and push the clear plastic guard back in and you’re all done. Reinstall the wire harness back into the housing and plug everything back up.
11. This step may not apply to everyone. But when its time to place the side access panel back you may find it hard to close with the addition of the ballast. This is because the access door was not made for xenon ballast. Solution if you can use the access panel off the xenon housing and use it. If that doesn’t work try using a dremel tool and try cleaning up the housing. If that doesn’t work go to the dealer and order an access panel for xenon housing there only like $10. also you may find it easier to peel off the rubber seal on the housing and place it back into the grove of the panel itself before reinstalling.
12. Replace and test the lights. They will at first come on very bright then dim down that is normal and that means its working fine. Adjust the aim of the light as desired and you’re done. GOOD LUCK If any questions please email me at SanadAffara@hotmail.com
