Bluetooth update:

I have been experiencing a very loud noise when I am connecting to calls using my hands free via bluetooth, and my iPhone. I told the dealer that I would like to unwind the deal. My dealer's Service Manager called GM while I sat in his office to attempt to see if they have a fix, or plan to fix. The answer is No, and No. I am very disappointed in GM, they respond indicating that their marketing information states that the system is only verified with three phones (three very old phones), as if I signed an iron clad contract agreeing to these terms and I shouldn't be suprised or complaining. In addition there are several features of my Nav unit which stop working once the car is in motion. I have had three previous cars with nav units and none of them stopped working (BMW, BMW, and Pioneer (after market)). I can't remember a single time when test driving the STS where the dealer had the Nav disc available for use during the test drive. They always respond that the Nav Disc is locked up (I guess cause people take them), or I wonder if it is more difficult to sell a car after the perspective buyer has a chance to experience the design flaws. I cannot express how badly I wish GM could do well. Its a USA thing, and I use to work for GM when they bought out Hughes Aircraft Company, but they need to respond better with these types of issues. They need to fix this problem on future versions of cars which have the same Nav / Bluetooth units, so why not release a fix for the people who already have one.

I can't tell how fun it is to watch passengers panic when this buzzing sound occurs. I know it is going to happen but it still catches me off guard as well.

I am very dissappointed in General Motors...

I agree this is totally ridiculous. At first I thought maybe this Bluetooth thing is “space age” and very difficult to do. I was in my friends 2008 Honda Accord, the blue tooth and NAV work wonderfully. Come one GM!!!!! WTF is wrong with you! Sure Acura shows Cadillac up with doing things the “right way”, but a Honda! They should be embarrassed and ashamed. A thing like this is not rocket science. Bluetooth and NAV have been out for 6, 7 years now. If Nissan can do it right in a $20K Rogue, surely Cadillac can with a $60K plus car. Hells, if GM is too lazy to do it, outsource it! I keep buying US products for personal reason, but one of these times I am going to get really pissed and take my $ somewhere else.

But other than that, I love my Cadillac. :)

Unfortunately, they all seem to do that with the iPhone. Mine does it as well. Very loud buzzing before the call connects when placing outbound calls.

It worked fine with my old Motorola RAZR which I think was one of the phones that GM certified.

You'd think that if bluetooth is a communications standard, that everyone would have to adhere to it identically. From what I understand, though, the spec is not very ironclad and leaves a lot of room for interpretation, hence the differing results with different phones.

GM must have bought thousands of these (outsourced Japanese) Denso nav units with VR and bluetooth in a fire sale and are trying to use them up in their current production. With technology constantly evolving that is a disaster waiting to happen. Whoever was responsible in making that decision must have their head in the sand. Regardless, this is was not a deal breaker for me as I have a 2005, but if I was looking at a 2008 with outdated electronics it would definately impact my decision.
