This came out of nowhere....now, it only happens with the windows aero theme enabled......but, with windows aero disabled if you try to view fullscreen video in WMP or in windows media center, it puts those same little marks all over the screen. Anyone heard of this???
(looking at imacs now)

and yes, I've checked drivers, this/that, you name it.....been happening for a couple weeks now, haven't seen anything that even remotely resembles my problem.......

Yeah, the solution is to get rid of Vista.
Need to keep it for media center......I'll prolly build another PC and just run ubuntu....but I'd like to get this one working correctly.

Did you try switching monitors or if its a notebook, connect it to an external monitor and see if it happens?
Here's a quick fix with only four easy steps...
1.) Locate XP install cd
2.) Place cd in drive
3.) Reboot PC
4.) Install XP

it could have been something you installed, its conflicting with vista. maybe try a system restore to before it started happening
welp, I formatted and reinstalled vista....same issue....funny that hardware would suddenly do that and not completely die....oh well, off to newegg I go.

What's this "media center" thing you talk about?
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/features/details/mediacenter.mspx
basically everything media related, my pc sits in my office recording shows, downloading movies/music, etc....and it streams over my network to my xbox 360....you could always use the computer hooked up directly to the TV...but the xbox is just too pretty :p

Haters. :p
Do you have another video card lying around that you could try? Display issues like that are more likely caused by the video card or monitor and not the operating system (not saying that it can't be Vista, just that I would start with more likely explanations).

I think he mentioned that after a System Restore the problem continued so its definitely the hardware.
