While we're on the drink bandwagon, I'll add a post for soft-drinks. As with coffee, I'm pretty well addicted. Switched from regular Coke to Diet Coke about six years ago because I'm about 20 pounds overweight. Hasn't helped, but at least I'm not any fatter.

I also keep my fridge stocked with ginger ale, but it has to be Canada Dry. And I have some Caffeine-Free Diet Coke at home if I have a soda in the evening.

There's a large Pepsi bottling plant in Corvallis, so a lot of the restaurants only serve Pepsi products. Regular Pepsi is way too sweet for me, but I can tolerate Diet Pepsi in a pinch.

Mr Pibb, Barq's or A&W Root Beer, Mountain Dew Code red. That's mainly it. I have always stuck to the darker sodas, along with the root beers.

Coke has to be in a canYeah, I mostly drink sodas straight out of the can.

Funny thing, though, I can't (or won't) drink beer out of a can. It has to be in a bottle.

If it's from Mexico, I'll drink it! They still use real sugar cane, not this high sucrose & fructose & glucose corn syrup. That stuff is nasty. Not to mention, they're playing with molecular stucture and calling it "made from sugar" but it's an entirely different chemical!! Someday it will cause cancer I 'betcha.

Mexican cokes "Medio Litre" and others are the best. ^^Agreed RC is the best, but then again they don't have it with cane sugar. If they did, that would be GOLD I tell you.

Here's a hint, when Passover comes around you'll find limited edition sodas labeled "Kosher" since Jews can't consume corn products. That soda is real sugar and tastes absolutely GRAND. Coke and Pepsi and others do it, so keep an eye out.

Also the best soda comes from directly injecting the carbonated water into the glass of ice and syrup. Just like the old "Soda Jerks" back in the 'teens. I'd but some syrup made with cane sugar and stock up. Then have REAL soda whenever.

....and add a little more coke to your Coke for a buzz; ya know they still put a little coke in your Coke to this day. I'm kind of a "soda jerk" (no pun intended), so forgive my rant.

Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Root Beer (any brand), Diet Black Cherry French Vanilla Pepsi, Diet Cherry 7up, Schweppes ginger ail (and the raspberry kind, very good with vodka), Vanilla Coke, Classic Coke, Squirt, Sprite, Mountain Dew, Vault. That's all I can think of.

Oh, and I live on Sugar Free Red Bull. I'm all about the diet drinks right now, I just lost 70 lbs and trying to lose just a few more.

My faves in no particular order:

Dr. Pepper
Coke
Vanilla Coke
Mountain Dew
Ale 8
A&W Root Beer
Stewart's Orange and Cream
Royal Crown
Sunkist Orange
Welch's Grape

I'm not all that hung up on cane sugar or corn syrup, just get it to me in a glass bottle! The day plastic bottles took over, was the decline of soda...

It tastes more like regular Dr. Pepper. Duh!

Cans my ass... soda, especially Coca-Cola is best out of a glass bottle....

Having said that... I haven't touched the stuff in years. Soda is probably the worst stuff this country is addicted to... If we all gave up the stuff we'd go from being an obese country back to merely overweight..

Yeah, I know it's not good for you, but I can't help loving it, and I doubt I'll ever give it up.

I've got two Sunny D's on my desk right now. Is that a juice or soft drink? YOU TELL ME!

It's neither, it's chemical plant runoff, collected right somewhere down the line from where the collect the diet soda. (Though I WILL admit diet Dr. Pepper does taste more like regular Dr. Pepper than other diet sodas taste like what they are aping; although that is rather like saying a Sachsenring Trabant is more like a Cadillac than a bicycle)

I like Dr. Pepper and Mr. Pibb, Pepsi, Royal Crown, (though I can't imagine putting whisky, Canadian or otherwise, in this is any good as someone suggested), Coke, and Root Beer.
Sometimes I go in for a fruity soda; Black Cherry, Orange, Grape, etc., but that happens rarely. I agree that soda, especially Coke, tastes better out of cans and best out of glass; plastic bottles lend a flavor that in some cases is not noticable and in others is quite unwelcome, especially for instance the 20oz Cokes dispensed from vending machines.

Out of the ones listed, I chose Coke (to me, Pepsi tastes like Coke that has been left open too long).

But my personal favorites are Jones and Faygo (anyone who grew up in Michigan knows what I'm talking about; Faygo Red Pop and Rock&Rye flowed through my veins when I was a kid).

All pop is better in glass bottles, followed by fountain poured, followed by cans, and only in plastic if you are desperate.

Another topic for discussion would be, "What do you call Cola/Soda/Pop/Coke where you live?" I've noticed that it is referred to differently in different areas of the country.
Pop ftw!

I DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND WHY R/C {ROYAL CROWN COLA} WAS OMITTED, BUT IT IS MY # 1 COMMERCIALLY ACCESSABLE FAV SODA.

However, here in N.J. we have THE best of all. Long before there was Coke or Pepsi or even R/C or Nehi or Hires Root Beer or or or or all the waaaay back to 1891 there was ANOTHER cola, that's still made today.

WARNING: If you find it, you will hate me, as is SOooo hard to find! & like me, you'll crave it !!

Now, imagine you take a normal cola, such as R/C. Okay? DELETE the High Fructose CORN syrup (which is no good for you, anyhow, outta it.) In it's place put PURE Grade "A" Cane Sugar, then delete the ARTIFICIAL coloring and add only natural coloring, then? Then use only natural flavorings and package it only in GLASS, those nice old thick glass bottles with a twist off cap. Certifiy it Parve & Kosher and you have BOYLANS BOTTL WERKS
Pure Cane Natural Cola.

I'll go & fetch the URL and post it. Go to YOUR state to see where it's sold, nearest to you. 4 glass bottle are $4.27

I'll agree with Sandy... the worst part of most big-time bottlers is their use of high-fructose corn syrup. It sucks that they sell this crap to us... I know Mexican Coca-Cola still uses cane sugar and I think Canadian Coke does so as well. There was a time when the US grew vast amounts of cane sugar from Hawaii to Texas to meet this country's sugar "fix," but not so much anymore. There's been rumors flying for a while now that they may switch back and if they do I might actually start drinking some again.

For those Dr. Pepper lovers out there... if you want a truly phenomenal Dr. Pepper, then you need to check out this site. (http://www.dublindrpepper.com/default.aspx) It's the oldest Dr. Pepper bottler in the US, it still uses pure cane sugar, AND it still bottles in glass (and cans as well). It's a little more expensive but it's soooo worth it. We usually order a few cases for our big holiday soiree and there's never any left when it's over... it's THAT much better... even I'll split one with the wife every now and then.

Has anyone heard of a drink called "Joya" pronounced "hoy-ya"? A Lone Star Ice Station (now unfortunately out-of-business) that I used to go to got in regular shipments of Mexican Coke. But in one case, a stray bottle of this orange-like soda managed to get in. The guy put it in the cooler to sell, and it was the only one he or I ever knew of, at least in America. I bought it, and it was dang near Heaven. I wish I could find some more.

That same ice station also sold French/British bottled water called "Vittel" and that was great too. Though it was a dollar for just 8oz.

Remember when i was maybe 8 or 9 and going to my Dad's dealership and getting the 6oz Coke bottle from the machine for like .10 cents and a hand full of peanuts from the little .05 cent vending mach. Take the first drink then pour the peanuts in bottle.
Damn those were the days.
I remember the mechanics gathering around the Coke machine and placing their dollar on top the machine to bet who would be the furthest from my home town, Crossville, TN to where the bottle was manufactured. Back then they were returnable and the manufacturing plant was indicated on the bottom of the bottle.
The good old days when life was much simpler.
I miss that.
My cousin has that machine in his family room.
Been in the family for over 40+ years and still work's.

I am a Pepsi drinker really. I'll drink most anything but I prefer the taste of Pepsi.
I like Coke too but not as much.
RC is good but hard to find depending on where you are.
I like the cherry .. whatever... every now and then.

I used to drink a 6 pack a day (soft drink) but when the pounds started piling on and my guts started screaming in pain from the sugar and caffeine I pretty much gave up. I tried caffeine free for a while but the sugar was still after me.
I drink about 2 a week, with lunch on Friday when me and a few of my coworkers go to lunch. Otherwise it is milk or water.
Guess I am getting old.
