My mom wants the car gone before the snow gets bad, but I dont want the parts to go to the crusher if they can be used by another enthusiast. :helpless: You can e-mail me adcadillac88@hotmail.com. I don't mind this address being here because it is my spam account. Just put cadillac parts in the subject, and I can send you some pictures. 96Fleetwood 11-25-07, 04:19 PM Hope all is well Andrew!

I know, it's terrible, isnt it. Look how beautiful it looks in those pictures. Since those were taken though, rust has started to take over like cancer and it has some electrical gremlin somewhere that I have been trying to track down for forever. Ever since I wanted to restore the car to make it nice, I have been thinking about the cost of it. For 3-5 thousand I could get an extremely nice Brougham of the same era without any problems that need fixed whereas with my car that might get me a nice paint job and not much more. I dont have the money to do what I want to with this car.
The car will be leaving soon, I am trying to pull everything off and stick it in my shed, so let me know if you need anything. I am also going to be listing a lot of stuff on ebay in the next couple days. Yes, the mirrors are not power mirrors though, I'm not sure if that matters or not. The front bumper fillers are good, I'll try and pull them off in the next few days as soon as this snow storm blows over. :duck:

The tires are shot on the wheels that I have, but if you want the wheels, let me know. Although I would like to keep the wheels on as long as possible so that I have the ability to move it around on the driveway when needed. 96Fleetwood 12-04-07, 06:41 PM Sweet, how much for the center armrest?

That is the SAME exact boat I am in.... man I know how hard it is... you can get really attached to these cars, but then there are so many of them around in mint shape with next to no miles on them, from a financial/practial/timely standpoint, its just not worth it to fix these cars up.
Since the Isuzu is down, I've been driving the Caddy to work, a guy at work is really interested in it... he said he'd give me $1,200 for it.... it sounds legit, but I just have a funny feeling it'll fall thru (first said he'd have the money next week, now it's after tax day) But... I've actually been thinking about selling the car (for no less then that price) cause $3,500 will buy a mint one.... yet still a big part of me dosn't want that car to go cause it means alot to me, and it is quite unique, I was looking at other Broughams on ebay and I dunno, it's a hit or miss, and most of them don't really do alot for me, it needs to be the right color combination, and honestly, when talking colors, IMO my '89 is as good as it gets.... which is another reason I like it so much.... so I dunno.
Your bumpers (atleast the front) looks really nice... I'd be interested, but shipping from Ohio to GA probably wouldn't even be worth it.
I didn't remember what your car looked like until you posted the pictures, man it really looked nice! and I like the velour interior..... you said it was getting cancer rust? where? any pictures? It's a shame to see it go though. 96Fleetwood 12-05-07, 08:22 AM Man, take that $1,200 and run!
Good deals are popping up everywhere, my brother just picked up a '92 Cotollion white d'Elegance with the 5.7 liter TBI for $2,500.
There are some low mileage 5.0 liter TBI models on eBay for under $5K. Night Wolf 12-05-07, 08:43 AM I know, it's very tempting.
Basically, I am not advertising that its for sale (cause its really not) but if he is serious about it and shows up with the cash (as he says he will) I'll sell it. My_favorite_Brougham 12-05-07, 03:30 PM Night, I know what you're feeling. I really didn't want to sell my Brougham, but $2500 in Benjamins helped ease the pain. But as soon as you get another Caddy, you'll feel all better again. It's that interim "Cadillac-less" time that really gets ya. But how's about you wait till March when everyone is full of tax return money. You could probably fetch $1.5k at least, if you take some nice pictures.
Greg Night Wolf 12-05-07, 05:35 PM Yeah, I gotta see, it is tempting to sell..... plus the thought of thinning out my car collection (yet again) is appealing, but I gotta see.... like I said, I am not advertising it's for sale, but if someone was interested in it and showed up with the cash, then I'll let it go. pimpin88 12-05-07, 07:29 PM Thanks just get me a price on those. The rear bumper was rusted out on the drivers side, so it was sent to the scrapyard. Sorry I couldnt help you out with that. It is supposed to stop snowing Friday and Saturday, so I will get everyones parts off and ready then. Rick...thinning out his car collection? Yeah.....right.... :D
You're a buyer Rick, not a seller! :)
But if I was you, I'd sell it if he was serious...$1200 isn't a whole lot less than I got for my deVille, and that was 3 years newer, and had like 80k less on it, and it showed it.
It's that interim "Cadillac-less" time that really gets ya.
Yeah, tell me about it. We got a '94 SLS in on trade today, and I was sitting in it....I kinda miss mine. This was the first time since I sold mine (almost 3 months ago now) that I sat in a Caddy of that vintage, and even reading thru the owners manual, it takes me back to mine, and it doesn't seem like any more than a day ago I was reading through mine.
I need another Cadillac....I'm thinking like an old RWD DeVille or Brougham...preferably a '79, '80 or '81. Maybe in a few years..... Night Wolf 12-06-07, 07:44 AM Rick...thinning out his car collection? Yeah.....right.... :D

It's just, for $3,000ish I can buy a mint low mileage FWB of the same vintage
Tonight at work I just did a quick search on auto trader for Broughams for sale within 200 miles of me, and here is what I saw:
This one here looks to be the same color combo as my car (which is rare, and I like it alot).... personally the black fabric room on my car really makes it stand out, but still, here it is, mint, with 64k miles, same inteiror color as my car too, but no leather... but, I like the velour myself.... no d'Elegance or moon roof, but still a nice car... all it needs is a waterfall grille in place of the egg-crate grille and it'd be set..... asking $2,900:

While this one has almost twice the mileage at 123k, it is triple black, a d'Elegance and has the 350 TBI.... same price...

That was just from a quick search right now.... and... it really makes me think about it.
But, the problem is deeper then that, see having any Brougham of this era, and my Town Car is flat out redundent... the only reason I have my '89 is cause my mom gave it to me, it means alot to me, and I really do like that car... But, it just dosn't make sense to have both of these cars, cause the Caddy isn't a classic. Even my '79 wasn't a "classic" and even that would have been sorta redundent.
and thats where I can't decide what to do.... see, the Town Car is just about better in every single category, on paper, its in mint condition, and I've practically rebuilt the car, addressing every issue a Town Car normally has.... but something is missing, the Town Car just dosn't have soul, it just feels like a car, though a very nice car... it's odd... when I get in the Caddy it just feels like home.
So if I did get another Brougham, it would be pointless to have that and the Town Car, so I'd have to let one go... if I sold the Town Car, I'd pay off what little I owe on it, it would buy me one of those Broughams, and I'd have money left over.
But, at the same time.... it's like as much as I like the Broughams (and I really do) they are an awesome driving car... but it's sorta in bewteeen a classic and a daily driver, not because of age, but because of design....
So the other option would be to have no '87-'92 Brougham, and get a nice classic, I like '65 DeVille's.... so if I got one of those, that would be my classic, and I would still keep the Town Car, as it would no longer be redundent cause it would not serve the same purpose as the classic Caddy.
Problem is tho, a mint classic is alot more money then one of these Broughams, and probably not in as nice shape (considering it's not hard at all to find a garage kept <70k Brougham)
I gotta see... I enjoy having multiple cars, but having multiple cars that serve the same purpose does bug me, cause it feels like the cars start to take over.... if I had my truck, the Lincoln and a classic Caddy, that would be nearly perfect.... so I gotta think about it.... the more I think about it tho, the more that does make sense and appeals to me. Night Wolf 12-06-07, 07:58 AM Had that '94 SLS been an STS.... now that would be nice :)
I know what you mean tho.... it's hard to replace the feeling of that era GM car.... they just have a certain feeling.... for me, that feeling spreads across 3 generations that I've had alot of expereince with.... late 70's to late 80's, mostly RWD cars, then mid 80's to mid 90's various, my Olds, my DeVille, my fathers Fiero etc... and then mid 90's to early 00's..... it's just hard to replace that feeling... I dunno, I guess its what I was always used to and now what I've grown to like.
Just certain things, like GM's multi-function turn stalk, and the fact that you can really sit low in a GM car, on all my GM cars I put the seat as low as it'll go, and I like to sit kinda back with the seat reclined slightly, as its more comfortable, and I like the tilt steering very low, so the steering wheel, if looked at from the side is pointing stright up and down, and is right in front of me..... it lets me sit low in the car and feel part of it, not ontop of it... my Olds, '79, 89 and '93 Caddy's let me do just that.... the Town Car in comparison? with the seat at it's lowest position, it still feels too high to me, like I am sitting above everything, and I just don't like that.
Plus, IMO nothing beats GM's old tilt steering system, where the actual wheel would tilt, alot.... tilt steering on new cars is a joke, it kinda moves the whole column up and down slightly, it really stinks, it started with imports but now GM and Ford do the same thing... I don't like it at all.
Seems like the last Cadillacs to have that classic GM feel would be the '96 Fleetwood, '99 DeVille, '02Eldo and '97 Seville, after that they really changed... yeah the cars feel alot newer after that, more refined... but... it just dosn't feel the same.
I think that is the exact reason why my '96 Town Car, which should really blow away my '89 Fleetwood Brougham, and even a '96 Fleetwood in almost everything except acceleration...... and in most cases, it does... but to me it just dosn't feel right... and thats hard to say, cause it's an awesome car, and I've got no complaints about it, it is super comfortable and has a ton of features..... and alot of things that I like on that car, the Brougham simply dosn't have (fuel data center, sterring wheel controls, lumbar etc....) but it just dosn't feel like home. 96Fleetwood 12-06-07, 10:54 AM Someone go get that '91 5.7 liter triple black d'Elegance now!! I bet you could haggle to $2,000. That is a beautiful color combo and the d'Elegance package and 5.7 make it even sexier.
Wish I was closer, I would be all over it! All it seems to need are some exterior emblems & correct hubcaps. bicentennialcadillac 12-06-07, 12:07 PM if I sold the Town Car, I'd pay off what little I owe on it, it would buy me one of those Broughams, and I'd have money left over.
More Cadillacs, more money, less Lincolns. Sounds like a winning plan! :D gfxdave99 12-07-07, 05:37 PM email sent pimpin88 12-08-07, 10:25 AM Going out and pulling parts and taking pictures today. Gwokable 12-09-07, 04:47 AM The manual mirrors won't fit in a deville Fleetwoods and deville's are different cars.
I'd also admit, value-wise it isn't worth it to sink a lot of money into these cars for resale. Broughams are the ultimate cruisers; Put a 25 Gallon tank, 350/THM2004R or 700R4, up the wheel size to 20 or 22's, good radio, and hit the highway and they will take you an insane distance in absolute comfort. You can fit nearly any set of after market accessories into these cars. Compared to a new car, they're cheap to fix. Pick up a junker for $1,000, and all the parts to replace are under like $5 or $6 grand if you know what you're doing and don't mind doing the grunt work. | |
