Yesterday my friend showed me his latest toy.....A 2005 Porsche Carrera GT. This is 1 of 875 in the U.S. It only has 60 miles on it. I've seen a lot of cars in my lifetime, but this thing is absolutely stunning in person.

Exhaust sounds like an F1 car. Haven't seen one in person yet though :(

Yeah...He started it up and I sat in it. I gave the gas a few blips....What a beautiful sound. He has no plans to drive it though...Just wants to let it sit and appreciate.

Believe it or not, they had one in the Porsche dealership about two years ago. My friend told me and I just had to go see it. I'm not a Porsche fan... actually I really don't care for them at all. But that car was very cool. Talked to the new car manager and he said they "lucked out" getting even though he refused. He new it wouldn't sell around here and it was just going to cost the dealership in very expensive fees. After it sat for 9 months they ended up getting rid of it. I asked a guy at the hospital, who is a salesman there, what had happened to it. He said it went back to Germany and was sold to a private collector in England. I think that is what he said.

Yeah....I asked about taking it for a ride. I got the response I expected. We take his Porsches to the track every year but he said this one will never go.

Yeah... I bought a used 99 a few years ago and only kept it for a month. If I'm gonna own a high performance car, I prefer CTS/STS-V'S, M5'S, etc etc.... Porsches are fun to beat the hell out of though.:burn:

My Dave White Racing Prepped 993 Cab I had for 4 years....

I absolutely loved that car, it was unbelievably reliable both off and on the track.
Rock solid, they can take extreme amounts of torture before they break.
In the 4 years I owned it I never not once had a major failure and I did more track days at Road Atlanta, Sebring, and Homstead than I can even remember. Plus all the street driving/racing... I didn't drive it everyday, but when the weather was nice out, so was my 993.

One of the main reasons I sold it was because in my mind, it was due to break. The normally aspirated flat six had been squeezed for every pony and I let them run at every opportunity, yet nothing would fail on the car.... even the clutch.

BTW- The GT2 is the upper echelon Turbo, the GT3 is the upper echelon non-turbo

Let's see, the Porsche's I like.....928, 944, 968. 996 & 997 911's, especially the Turbos. Then there's the Cayenne S and Turbo, 959 and Carrera GT.

You didn't like the 993's!?! The last real purist 911 made before they went to water cooled in the 996 and made them all comfy inside... :want:

LOL!

LOL, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, I don't like them, because of those headlights. But then again, what do aesthetics matter when you're discussing Porsches? ;)

At the Car and Driver 50th Anniv celebration, I got to ride in one, at speed, with Hurley Haywood driving. That was at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Not a very big oval track, half mile IIRC, but he could hit 130 down the straights. And he was taking it easy.

That car was fierce!

I know. I make fun of him all the time. We track his 911's and Audi's but he owns lots of really cool stuff. He has an Audi S4 with 750HP that he had built and it hasn't hit the road since. I drive everything I own....Even if it's just once in a while.
