Does anyone know where I can nab a new set of bumper energy absorbers for my rear bumper?

I've been to some junkyards, but most of them have the cars crammed against the woods at the back of the lot, making it impossible to get at them, and the new england weather isn't kind, causing them to rust and loose their absorbing capabilities, which is precisely what happened to mine after not being garaged for over 18 years.

Most parts suppliers I've talked to don't have them, and I'm afraid to go to the dealership. I paid 36 bucks just for a rubber window strip. Seeing as how the bumper absorber is actually metal with moving parts, I'd expect to pay upwards of 20 grand, just to take a guess.

Try some of the salvage yards out in the West Coast, such as Arizona, New Mexico, etc. I have found that they have a lot of good parts cars and they just love sending parts back East. Check with the local dealers first so you know what new parts cost, before contacting them. Some are very fair to deal with, and others think that iron is just another term for gold, and charge accordingly. Shipping on heavy parts is also expensive. I have found a lot of good usable parts reasonable on ebay if you are willing to just wait for the auction to appear. You can also make a "wanted" post on ebay in the new "want it now" section.

AMEN!
I had the entire deck lid of my 1979 Chrysler Cordoba shipped from a place in Arizona back in 1990 when I had the car re-done.
I can't remember either the cost for the trunk lid nor the shipping, but it was more than reasonable, it was shipped directly to the body shop and there wasn't a speck of rust on it.
Sorry I can't recall the name of the outfit I got the part from. I gave the car and all the records to my cousin's daughter in 2002.
The original lid had rust all around where the outer finish panel wrapped around the inner part and since I was going over the entire car and there was no rust anywhere else, I just scrapped the deck lid for that "new" one.

thanks for the advice! I'll keep it in mind next time I have to do this. I got impatient being unable to find the part, so i just straightened mine out with a hammer and put them back on.

They no longer absorb. They're just for show.

Where in New England are you? I might know of a yard that could help you.

Westport, in south eastern Mass, about an hour south from Boston.
