I'm in the middle of replacing the bumper on my 89 Brougham, but I need a new rubber impact strip. Has anyone ever replaced these before? On 90-92 models they have little clips holding them in, but the earlier years don't, they seem to have little one-way studs that my service manual says must be chiseled off. This makes getting a used impact strip somewhat problematic.
Just wondering if anyone has ever swapped these strips, or if I'll have to drop some serious coin at the Caddy dealer for a brand spanking new unit.

I have removed them from the face of the 1977 - 1979 bumpers by squeezing the tab with a vice grip and gently tapping the tab with a screwdriver to push it out of the bumper. On only one tab, did I encounter any resistance, and I sprayed that one with silicone spray and it came out easily. I think that the only way that you will know for certain, is after you take the bumper off and remove all the mounting brackets from the bumper face and expose the backside of the bumper.

Well shit, nobody told me it couldn't be done. When I reconditioned all of the rub strips on my '79 Phaeton, I just popped them off with a screwdriver. It was way too easy, and didn't harm a thing. Only thing I had trouble with was the center moldings between the front bumper guards, they have metal belting behind them, which has to be taken off from the back.

I did the same as Benzilla on my 88 Brougham. Popped her off with a screwdriver.
I've got it sitting in my garage if you need it.

Yeah, I did notice how they come off. My service manual says you have to chisel off the tabs, but they do come off fine with a screwdriver and a little persistence. Thanks guys.
