Hi all,

I apologize for my aborted post last week, but before I knew it...I posted that incomplete message!

For real, here is my new '88 FWB. It has 91,000 miles, 307 V8, and very few options except cruise control, delayed wipers, the wheel covers and trunk release. I've never seen such a base FWB, which has its own appeal to me. Picked it up for $2300 in this condition.

Next up is a good tune up (it seems to be missing) then an alignment and some Broadways!

I like that color alot, it seems like it's got a tiny hint of copper in it, but it might just be my monitor.

Clean interior, cloth seats, and a perfect steering wheel! What else do you need? Less options mean less things to break or leak, which is why these big Broughams were like that; little old ladies just wanted fine dependable cars. Which is what I think we all want.

Niiiiiiiiice car! Those golden brown colors really give it a rich, classy look. One clean machine.

Wow, that is in great shape... and you've even got both wood trim caps for the radio! :)

I actually much prefer the velour over leather myself.... dunno why.

That car is the SAME exact color combo as my step fathers '87, which is now my parts car for the '89.... inside and out, top and everything... I was gonna say, if you need any color specific parts for the interior or something to let me know... but... your car is flawless!

Seeing examples of your car for $2,300 really makes me think about putting the money into my '89... I know its not worth it in terms of money.... but I am just attached to that car... I like it too much for what it is, so thats why its a slow project for me.

This is what they look like after spending 8 years in NY as a daily driver (from Florida) including the winters and used just as a mode of transportation, but maintained, towing a small utility trailer, 1 rear end collision, 2 front end collisions, 230k miles on body, ~75k on rebuilt transmission and 35k on new engine. What finally took it off the road was the rear brakes lines rusted in half at the same time of some front end problems that cause a new tire to wear on the inside down to the cords.... they said it had enough and got a '98 Park Ave now..... so its my parts car.

Beautiful Brougham!

The d'elegance pillow cloth was the best seating and by far the rarest

Hi all,

And thanks for the kind comments. I love it already.

I have to confess I did clay bar the paint just before the pictures and removed a bunch of dirt. Next I polish then wax. It looks so clean even now, especially at twilight, that my neighbor actually thought it was a NEW CADILLAC with the temporary paper plate and all!

I agree that the less it has the less to go wrong, I just enjoy all that great Cadillac goodness in its base form. Some of you have asked and, yes everything works, including the antenna.

Night Wolf: How is your transmission selector post on the steering column? Mine has the chrome flaking off a little.

My only issue now is a slight miss in the engine under any load at all. I just had new plugs, wires and distributor put on and a tune up and I thought that would do it, but no. I am thinking it might be a sticky valve or lifter? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Charles -

You mean the gear shifter?

I am not sure the car isn't here right now, but I'll see it tomorrow, I can get more pictures of it.

lol, they really thought it was new? I mean I know the condition would suggest it, but where have they been that last 20 years of automotive design???

haha, nice! Several valets here at our building thought my Fleetwood was "newer." I guess the condition of our cars sometimes just blinds them

Really looks great and doesn't seem to be missing that many options if you ask me.

I dig the cloth too. Reminds me of my old 80 seville. But your car is 1000% better than that junker I'm sure.

As far as the options go, I checked the brochure and found quite a few items not included: leather seats, power pass seat, recliners, twilight sentinel, level control, visor vanity mirrors (!), day/night rearview miror, auto door locks, electric remote mirrors, rear reading lights, trunk pulldown and more.

Still, it's a nicely equipped car for its time.
