Hi there,
as some of you know I own a 07 STS V8 export model.

Since about two months I get after starting the engine after "Driver 1" and my name the "Service theft sytem". I went in at my dealership and they replaced the hood lock with the sensor but still the same.

My dealer told me now that`s something wrong with the electrical system and wont me to bring in the car for 1 or 2 days. Is there any other way to handle this problem?

Thank you

Harry

You must be, I never heard of it Harry.

Personally? I wouldn't mess with it, take it to the dealer and let them find the problem. Have you tried to use the Driver2 fob and see if it still does it?

Sorry I can't help any more than that.

Kadonny, good idea but didn`t help, first message after starting the engine is
"service theft system"

Thank you

I had the same problem with the Hood Lock Sensor. It went bad while I was on vacation in N.C. Dealer replaced the hood latch, and I haven't had a problem since, but I had the same symptoms as you did. It seemed that moisture would trip the faulty latch sensor. Again, no prob. since replacement. I would let the dealer have your car, and get a free loaner while they fix the prob.

Thank you Bikedude!
but they changed the hood latch with the sensor already but after starting the car the same message appears.

I might go for a V since they now available here in Germany - would be an easy way to get rid of this problem.

I haven't seen that issue on STS. I am sure the dealer will have to check codes and trace it that way.
I don't see any bulletins or anything like that.

This past Sunday, while driving from Chicago to Albany, NY, this happened to me ('05 STS). There were 2 messages: HOOD AJAR and SERVICE THEFT SYSTEM. We had to listen to that damn thing beeping on and off for hours.
It's at the dealer right now being looked at along with a list of many other problems. Also had message to service airbag a couple of weeks ago.

Hi CTS11723, still have had no time to bring it to my dealer but no beeping on mine and no HOOD AJAR.
After each start I only get the message "SERVICE THEFT SYSTEM" and I got used too to push the reset button and it`s gone, till the next start.

...thread back from the dead...I know...but the resurrection is/was necessary...;) ...cause this export specific problem was never solved...here in the forums...

...07 STS V8 export model....
..."service theft sytem". I went in at my dealership and they replaced the hood lock with the sensor but still the same....

...I know Harry is/was located in Germany...and his export STS (and later his STS-V) was for the german market...

...so...for future questions/searches with the same problem...here is the solution...just for other export market STS owners (non-domestic-non us/canadian specs STS) with the specific export specs...!

...well, I got the same problem and the same "service theft system"-only message few months ago on my export STS...and as mentioned here, it wasn't the hood lock with sensor...!
...so, if the hood lock/sensor is/was replaced, and the system still triggers a "service theft system" (e.g., a Germany-market STS will show a -translated- "Diebstahlsystem prüfen"...) on an export STS, just see a good Cadillac/GM dealership and let them run a Tech II...they will find...and it will show a specific DTC...DTC B3089...responsible for the message...

...it's a faulty (or dying) export specific part of the export specific vehicle anti-theft and alarm system...it's the "Intrusion Sensor" in the overhead console...
(...us/canadian domestic STS doesn't have this part...the intrusion sensor is located in the area where domestics got the HomeLink "garage opener", the "Universal Home Remote System"...)
...again, this isn't comparable to a domestic market STS...

...the repair/the fix...or replacing isn't cheap at all...it's a five minute job...pull console, replace sensor and delete code with Tech II...but the export STS intrusion sensor will run about 800 $ retail...available in some shops for approx. 500 $ online atm...

...here a picture of an 800 bucks brick...:

Dang. Good info. But a more important question is why did Harry get banned? :D

He was banned in 2008 by the site owners and Admin, so it was no knee-jerk occurrence. You could always click his username, open the profile, and go back through his posts to get some insight.

Hmm. I looked through some of the latest ones from 08 and I'm not seeing anything. They seem pretty polite.

Maybe they got deleted. Oh well, just a passing curiosity. No big deal.
