well i guess we can see who the winner is here..no surprise. under 2000 monthly sales for a refreshed STS is nothing to cheer about. my guess is sales will decrease ever so slightly over the next few months and hang around 1300-1500 units per month.

I'm not so optimistic. STS sales will probably fall from here. The new model is out and anyone that wants one will buy in the next few months. By this time next year, I suspect about 1,000 a month. With the CTS going full- burn, and the coupe and wagon varients coming, I wouldn't be suprised if Cadillac kills the STS all together within 18 months.

Hey, MarkVIII,
Anyway to get monthly numbers back to 2004 when the STS was introduced?

I have read that the STS will in fact be discontinued by 2011. It makes sense when the new CTS is such a great car and so close in size to the STS that having them both makes no sense. I own a '05 STS and traded my '04 CTS in for it because of 1) AWD , 2) Larger car and 3) nicer interior. With the new CTS all of those differences no longer apply .

The good news is ( if the press is correct) is that Cadillacs replacement for the STS will be a S Class and 7 Series fighter. It is going to be the " Cadillac of Cadillacs" and is rumered to be the car that alllows Cadillac to bring their old slogan back " The Standard of the World"..... I will be waiting....;)

I'm afraid the press is wrong. The new large sedan will be terrific (If the same people who brought us the new CTS are in charge, how could I doubt it?). But I don't think it will steal any S or 7 sales. It's pricing will more likely be in the $45K- 62K range, since the CTS tops out at 50K. The volume potential for a car in this range is certainly higher than either the S or the 7 do, at least in the US. There will be a high end sedan bearing the Cadillac name someday. It'll be a while, though.

I think they would sell more CTSs if the dealers had any stock. Mine has a +3 wait list.

Wow, MarkVII, you didn't tell us you'd got your time machine running. Did you happen to notice what stocks will be up this time next year?

Spoke to my Service Manager this morning and we were talking about both the STS and CTS. He mentioned to me that the STS will be discontinued after 2009 primarily due to the CTS taking over their performance Sedan category. Although a new CTS owner, my first love was the STS.

I think there will be a 2010 STS but, it will be like the 2004 Seville or the 2006 Tahoe with shorter production period. I suspect the 2011 DTS/STS replacement will come out spring of 2010.

Don't get me wrong, the CTS is well done, but it is still no STS. In the defense of the CTS, it does not cost nearly as much as the STS can.

I'm afraid the STS/DTS replacement is pushed out to sometime mid-2012. Financial constraints are the reason. Personally, I think GM is giving the Chevrolet Volt every dime it can until it's in production. I don't blame them, either. It could be the game-changer everyone's looking for.

The DTS will soldier on through the 2010 model year, I understand. The STS and SRX will probably breathe their last at the end of the 2009 model year. With luck, the CTS and its coupe and wagon variants will take up the spare capacity.

The name of the new, Zeta platform based, RWD large sedan to replace the STS and DTS has been chosen. It will be called DT7.

Many other Cadillacs may have similar nomenclature changes in a couple years time, as well.

so sad to hear about the demise of the STS. This is my second. I am sold on them and was hoping to now be brand/model loyal because I am so happy with it. The DTS was my initial choice, but was sold when I drove the STS. The STS has everything I want in a car. Don't get me wrong, the other reason I have the STS over the DTS is the STS fits in the garage,(along with three HD's and the wife's car). THe CTS is nice, but it isn't the STS.
