View Full Version : CB anyone? EcSTSatic 10-31-07, 12:48 PM You guys are up on the technology. We generally carry a cell phone in the vehicle, so is there any reason to justify wiring my CB radio back into my van?
I have a nice older mic controlled CB remote unit I pulled out of a car I sold a while back that can be wired into the stereo sound system or use an external speaker. I don't know what I should do with it. EBay? Playdrv4me 10-31-07, 01:55 PM You guys are up on the technology. Entertainment! If you take road trips where there will be other cars the CB is great...assuming all the cars have one in your caravan...otherwise flip it to 16 and listen in on the truckers...if thats the channel they're still using, or am I thinkin boat  can't remember. dkozloski 10-31-07, 02:24 PM Citizen's Banders should be beat to death with a citizen's band whip. I think it's 16 for both. I've never convoyed but I can see where that would be handy. I used it once to get directions in Okla City when it seemed like the whole city was one big detour. It has also gotten me out of some radar traps. The 4 and 18 wheelers on the interstates would sound off long before the radar detectors do. Is that still common practice? Ha, great for finding out where the smokeys are... Ya I guess so, it's been years since I've even touched one of those things......still 16 on the vhf though, alas I don't even have a radio in my boat...I figure a phone is just fine :p I have almost always had a radio in most of my vehicles. I rarely used it, but when on the freeway and moving good or wanting to check on weather or detours or road construction or when bored in the middle of the night on long drives they're always good to have around.
DKoz, what d'ya hate so much about them?! dkozloski 10-31-07, 11:18 PM Nationwide, CB has degenerated to teenagers yelling obscenities at each other. It started out fairly well but it didn't take long for the idiots to ruin it for everybody. If you want to see where the internet is headed go back and look at citizen's band. DILLIGAF 10-31-07, 11:18 PM CB's were cheaper than cell phones in the day.I could call home from 45 minutes away, very usefull! We all had them 25 years ago. LS1Mike 10-31-07, 11:23 PM When I bought my RV it had one, I haven't had the heart to take out. I don't want to upset it.
If we are driving any good distance I will turn it on and listen, but not often. submariner409 10-31-07, 11:28 PM On the East Coast I-95 N-S (Maine-Florida) corridor there are a right fair number of Mom and Pop cars with magnetic stick-on CB antennae, especially in fall and spring when the snowbirds migrate. arnauts 11-01-07, 12:03 AM I've got a Cobra 148 GTL and Wilson 5000 whip. It keeps you entertained and in free contact with your buddies on a road trip. Red_October_7000 11-01-07, 04:22 AM I used to have one. It died. I still have a nifty Mock cell phone antenna for it waiting for me to find a new one (or blow $135 for a shiny new one from Rat Shack) keeping the real cell phone antenna company. It was useful enough for finding traffic, etc. Somtimes some real funny shit was said on it, though, my buddy Rich has it pegged, you hand anyone that mic and they'll immediately develop a thick trucker accent -even the queen of England.
"Oh... Thank you...... Ah Breaker 1-9 Breaker 1-9, Can I Get me a smokey report on th' I-90?" HITMONEY 11-01-07, 01:53 PM CB would come in handy in a national emergency situation like 28 Days Later.... you would be able to see if there are any more survivors and be able to escape from the flesh eating zombies. Could be useful.

Now that's the best reason yet :highfive: I better get it back in soon! Zombies! Sweet. I better put my CD in then...my case of .50 ammo just came in the mail an hour or so ago...I'm ready! RocketFast321 11-01-07, 05:26 PM I've got a Cobra 148 GTL and Wilson 5000 whip. Don't shoot me.
