Y doesn't anyone make a full cold air intake? they have the cool air intakes that take slitly cooler air from the corner of the hood but as far as i know there isnt an intake that mounts the filter up front and down low where all the cold fresh air is. I have a custom cool air intake with a k&n filter and it works great, I was thinking about making it a full intake. Has anyone tried this? will the motor except much colder air? any suggestions...

See Reed's Website for my write up on a CAI mod for only $50. It draws the air from the lower grill. Look for the TonyA CAI

The Volant does have an opening in the front for true cold air!
I think, as long as you drive, you can eliminate the advantage of scooping the colder air from the bottom of the car as you make the breathing tube longer, compared to the Volant setup.

Keep in mind there's a $200 difference in price. Another advantage of the TonyA is your dealer/service dept won't know.

I bet all the work in doing a ram air...isant even worth more than 1 hp.........

do this...all fulids to synthetics like differential.....yeah I think that's about it.......and you might get 2 hp and give longer life to it's componets.....

Fyi..I changed my diff fliud at 30k miles and noticed a slight bit of torque was restored.

That's not true. Check the two great air intake challenge threads. The Volant, K&N and TonyA CAI were tested on the Dyno on the same car and the same day. The Tony a had a respectable gain. All 3 were within a couple of HP difference at the rear wheels, which was around 10HP. You lose the bet Vert. Send me some money!:D

10 hp is almost not noticable. I did notice big improvment gains from Synthetic diff fluid.

thanks guys but i know all about the volent and the k&n and the getto ass one that uses your stock air box.I have an intake. And iam not trying to make a ram air iam was wondering if anyone made there own COLD air intake. and if the engine whould throw a code for having intake air temps to cold(this happens on some motors)??????

The engine is not going to throw a code if the air is too cold, because cars can not control the weather. I mean it gets cold during the winter, right? The ECU measures the temp of the air coming in and adjusts accordingly...

The other thing to note is that the current stock airbox IS by definition a 'Cold Air Intake'. It takes it's air from a hole in the fender which is fed by air behind the headlight, which is outside of the engine bay. I love the ricer 'Cold Air Intakes' which are nothing but a cone filter on a tube mounted inside the hot engine bay!

On the 3.2L dyno tests, I found the TonyA modified stock airbox produced the same HP and Torque as the Volant. The only functional difference between the two is the Volant filter has more area. They both take cold air from directly behind the headlight.

I've made my own, it works well, I haven't dyno'd it, but there is definately some acceleration that wasn't there before. I made the heatshield myself, cool air is being blown into the cone filter from the cut out where the stock airbox originally drew air.

I'm new to Cadillacs and this website. Could you please post the URL to "Reed's Website"? I'm interested in the review of the TonyA CAI.

Thanks,

Keith

Welcome to the forum. Here you go:

There's a ton of good info on that faq & this website. Be sure to use the search feature on here, almost anything you can think of for these cars has been hashed out.
