: Dyno Results 181hp...

10-27-07, 03:02 PM
Well after a long wait she finaly got to run on the Dyno, it was a DynaPack dyno which measures HP at the axle and the numbers were bad... now here is why...
:thehand: Before you all start smashing up this thread I need to clarify that I didnt know my numbers so we put in 2nd gear and the gear ratio we used was 1.67 when in reality its 1.48 and also the rear end ratio was 3.73 and in reality that was 3.90 so the HP is off but the Torque is even more off...

The HP was 181 and the torque was 148 which is way too low so now i got to figure the damn equations and try to correct that...

Also for some reason the car couldnt go past 6K RPM she stopped there very run and I think its because of the dyno... it was set to back off at that RPM... they were affraid of damagin the engine I guess... but the HP graph kept rising so I guess at 6500RPM it would have been more like 185-186.... something like that...

Another thing is the Dynopack runs lower HP ratings then the other ones so In reality it should be about 8% higher... so I am off to digging my books so I can figure that stuff out...

10-27-07, 03:33 PM
well 181 is not to far off. The Cateras are believed to have 200 HP stock. and im pretty sure thats not at the wheels...

10-27-07, 05:33 PM
Well I had to go back there and talk to the guy and he took the actual numbers and was able to use the data he got and regraph the HP and TQ curves.... and we got what he expected out of it... so I was happy with the results...
The car has 85000mi... its been babied always so the motor is as strong as it gets...

Now mind you the car has a K&N Filter and a Steinmetz Exhaust, 94Ocatane... and it was in sport mode for all three runs...
I can tell the exhaust was a huge difference across the RPM but I didn't think it would be that much... so I am happy with the results...
This one is the best run as the other ones were not that far off... The other two were 190HP and 187HP

well... wait now why is the 2nd gear 1.62, I thought it was 1.48....

10-27-07, 05:38 PM
The hp rating is at the flywheel so your 181 hp at the axle is quite good, it also matches what Warez got. http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-catera-cimarron-forum/76880-catera-dyno.html

10-27-07, 05:40 PM
So I looked the trans up and I guess there is a base and optional gear box which comes with a 1.62 and the base is 1.48.... if that is the case the numbers will drop a little bit.... probably by 1 or 2 units...

10-27-07, 09:22 PM
So anyways these numbers do make sence considering how much the car has improved over stock with jsut the Filter and the Exhaust system.... the torque numbers seem a bit high at 207 ftlb... but the hp is sweet right at 191... and also the 181 was on one of the first runs and it was only at somethign around 6K... the true HP number came from 6450rpms-ish... i just happened to remember that number for some reason...

The three runs were:

187 hp and 203.2 ftlb
190 hp and 204.5 ftlb
191 hp and 207.7 ftlb

I should also mention that the car was sill cold when we ran the 1st run and then by the last one it had reached normal operating temp... so I dont know if that had something to do with the climbing HP...

I guess the torque seems a bit high and that was at the 3000RPM range and then it dropped off some but stayed flat to the end so I dont know which one to look at... Peaked at 207 but stayed flat around 180-190 so ... I will go with the 207 for now...

Also the Base trans with the 1.62 gears was used on the 4 cyl for more accelaration I guess and all V6s got the 1.48 so just keep that in mind if you go to dyno yours...

10-27-07, 09:26 PM
hmm how come mine has the 1.62 gears. i bought all the options list for the car and thats the tranny it said it had , also heres the list of crap too.

i just copyed and paste that sorry its hard to read, it was in sections and just pasted odd

10-27-07, 09:34 PM
Well this is where I found out about the Optional and Base configurations and I guess the Base was due to a weak engine so they gave it slightly different gears...

10-27-07, 10:05 PM
Gear Ratios
Base Optional
1st: 2.400 2.860
2nd: 1.467 1.620
3rd: 1.000 1.000
4th: 0.723 0.723
Rev: 2.000 2.000

lol you said the base is the 1.62, wow im lost

10-27-07, 10:06 PM
"Also the Base trans with the 1.62 gears was used on the 4 cyl for more accelaration I guess and all V6s got the 1.48 so just keep that in mind if you go to dyno yours..."

10-27-07, 10:12 PM
Oh wow, I guess I am lost cuz I am looking at all the different specs on the transmissions and I guess you are right... the ones we got are 1.62 and I got them confused with the 1.467... my bad...

So I will have to redo the graphs again and see where the power will go... I will drop a little bit I think... we will have to see by how much...

But I guess I got confused because I was looking at the transmissions and the engines that were mated to them and I was under the impression that the V6 was mated with the 1.467 gears and the 2.2L were mounted to the 1.62 thats why i got confused....

10-27-07, 10:20 PM
Check this site and there they list them as 1.48 so I dont know what to make of this anymore... everyone has different numbers... go figure...

http://www.autobahnstormers.org/ >>> Eligible Cars >>> Vauxhall/Opel Omega 'B' >>> Omega 3.0i/3.2i Elite >>> Technical Specifications and thats where the gearbox info is...

Here is where I got the info....

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/6951/gearratiosbv9.jpg Thats why now I am confused...

Notice the basic one has the 1.62 and the V6 has the 1.48

10-27-07, 10:39 PM
yeah lol , hell i dont know ,the info i have is for my vin. someones info on the sites are wrong lol. maybe there geared differant in the uk

10-27-07, 10:43 PM
Ok so as a conclusion I guess there are 3 different gear ratios that were available for 2nd gear in the 4L30E trans... 1.467, 1.48, 1.62 so I would trust the info you got form your vin info... btw where did you get that vin info from is there a VIN Decoder page somewhere?

10-27-07, 11:06 PM
www.decodethis.com cost 4.00

10-27-07, 11:18 PM
The Catera had only one engine, one transmission, and one final drive during its entire run (the electronics changed though). The Omega had several models and levels as you can see. Your last chart doesn't even list the 3.0L V6. Here's what I got at GM mediaOnline. Look under Driveline.

10-27-07, 11:55 PM
Drive System Type Rear-wheel drive
Gear Ratios
1st 2.856:1
2nd 1.62:1
3rd 1.0:1
4th .723:1
Reverse 2.0:1
Overall Final Drive Ratio 3.9:1

Hydramatic THM 4L30E

So I was right lol yea .

10-28-07, 12:13 AM
Yep you hit it right on the money... here is the final graph corrected for the 1.62 gear ratio...

10-28-07, 09:42 PM
yep 10ktgold and elvin are correct on gear ratios i have 97 factory brochure and it says same

10-28-07, 09:53 PM
yep 10ktgold and elvin are correct on gear ratios i have 97 factory brochure and it says same

Ok thanks for the info, then the last graph I posted should be the most accurate one, I got a buddy who works at GM and he is in the powertrain division so he said he will look around for some more info and possibly even some data about the engine etc...

10-28-07, 10:21 PM
based on 192tq and you hit 196tq?

10-28-07, 10:31 PM
Its not stock remember I have things done to it and that morning the air was nice and cold at 55degrees so If i put it on a dyno on a hot day it should be lower then what I got on Saturday...

Also remember that in Europe they are rated at 210HP and 200TQ I think and when they brought them over nothing was changed... except maybe the cats but thats it... and so our cars are generally underrated... also who else got HP/TQ graphs so that we can compare... them?

I have been looking at the Dyno graphs for the engine and they look almost identical to mine, same peaks around the same RPMs etc... and if the 1.48 happens to be right then it will be even higher...

I can tell the car had more power from the moment I drove it with the new exhaust on there and soon the X pipe will come and hopefully that will make even more power...

10-28-07, 11:19 PM
cool, sux that a cai or dropin doesnt do much but 1hp gain. but the exhaust and removed cats does tho?

10-28-07, 11:32 PM
Well I think another guy on here had 185hp so i am right on there... he didn't get TQ because somehow they never read the RPMs to figure it out... althou I would say that he can calculate that with a formula based on the HP curve...
