Does anyone know if any members here have been impacted by the fires?

Not yet...its really not that big of a deal. If you hadn't noticed, Southern California burns to the ground every other year. Has been since I was a kid. In another day or three it'll be really smoky up here and then in a week or two all will be back to normal. It's expected. Look back at this time of year, every other year, for the last ohhh I don't know...twenty?

Wasn't the joke that California's four seasons were Fires, Mudslides, Earthquakes and Riots?

Still, I feel for anybody affected by those fires in Southern California. Makes Oregon rain seem pretty good by comparison.

Every year the Southern California fire chiefs get together and express their disgust with the stupidity of the public. All that's required to keep your house safe is to cut the brush and trees back from your house, mow the lawn, and put in mesh screens under your eaves. As the fire nears you put a lawn sprinkler on the roof. I'm listening to a fire chief talk on the Fox network about this very subject. People bring this crap on themselves and the rest of us get to pay for it all.

Which is why I said it's not that big of a deal. I agree with ya Koz.

Build yr. house below sea level with a twelve foot wide wall of dirt keeping the ocean out and blame someone else when yr. feet get wet.

Don't the treehumpers out there try to sue when people try to clear out old brush?

Gee, between the fires, earthquakes and landslides, you'd think nobody would ever want to move out to Cali. But boy is THAT wrong.

I'd take AZ over CA any day of the week.

some people do and some people dont... and that would defeat the purpose of spending $$$$ on landscaping. i was up at 4am watering the shit out of my lawn.

More specifically: Fox reported that a charred dialysis machine was found at the ignition point of the San Diego fire.

Meanwhile, National Public Radio notes that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are on the front lines, spraying down houses as California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is in a helicopter over the fire zone... smoking a cigar.

Brush and trees next to your house are the 22" wheels of home ownership. It's either burning brush and trees or your house still standing, whatever is more important to you.
