Im new here, I have a 1998 Deville northstar. Of course, its sugjested by GM that the car should get premium gas. I been using 89 octane & the car runs the same as if I use premium & I get about 23.5 MPG. Would I do any damage if I try tank of 87 outane?:crying2:

No, you won't do any damage or notice any difference from my experience. The engine has a very effective knock sensor that will allow the use of 87. This has been discussed many times. Do a search and you will find much to read.

yeah, thats mainly why I switched. they have these "gas sales" where I live and the 87 is much lower than the higher octanes. usually theres a 10 cent difference between medium grade and premium grade. while regular to medium could be as much as a 12-15 cent difference. finally got the old man to switch from using premium.

fpmes.....I received alot of feedback from folks here to try 87, so i figure, why the hell not. I just didnt fill with 87 so in case in ran like crap I could top with 93 quick. So far, she is ok with 87. I gas up everyday, so it really adds up.:yup:

You're not going to see 23-24 doing city driving, which with that mileage is what I assume you are doing.

Define BEST.

:Dstill using 87 exclusively, any brand to....no difference that I can see. I use at least 12 gallons a day so the savings will add up.
