: Out of gas. Cop helps push.

I was driving south on the turnpike and ran out of gas. I was carrying plenty of speed. I got off at NW 12th and made a right cause there was a red light with cars in the left. I round the corner and there is nothing in site and nowhere to pull over. I roll to a stop and jump out to start pushing. I have to go a few hundred yards to get it out of traffic. Then I look back and there is one of Florida's finest running a block for me so I don't get run over. However I was running out of gas myself. She blippped the siren and I stopped pushing. She came over and said she would call the highway helper truck. I pulled up the closest gas stations on the nav and tried to call to have someone drive me out a gallon and lead me back to the station(its a time saving trick). I got about three different languages but no english. I explained to the cop that if I get it off the road I would be fine as I could get a taxi and gas and be on my way. So what does she do....starts pushing!!! We got it off the road under an overpass and she drove me to a gas station. I don't think they are supposed to do that. She even offered to wait for me to get gas. I declined.
The craziest part about this is that I could smell the beer on my mustache the whole time. I wasn't bombed or anything. I did have a few watching Miami get crushed again(looks like another perfect season). BUT, the fact is I would have failed if made to blow. I don't know if she smelled it but how couldn't she have. Cops are trained to notice things. I was blessed.
Its easy to bag on cops. Its almost part of popular culture today. We can blame them for all kinds of shit and call them all corrupt. I do it all the time. Its pretty ridiculous as I sit here and think about it. It would be a mess without them.
I know she will never see this but I want to thank that cop. I felt the need to do it out loud where strangers can see. I am going to make an effort to stop talking so much negativity about them.
If anyone knows a beautiful, black, female, county officer that helped push a Caddy west on NW 12th street just west of the turnpike on Sunday evening, tell her thanks for me. She was definetely beautiful in more ways than one.:worship:

I ran out of gas years ago when I was a teen, and a cop drove me to a gas station. Most cops are pretty cool.

You'd be surprised. For the most part, we're all pretty decent people. Once we let our guard down, I'll bet that most of you would love to tip a few with us. The guys at the last South Florida get-together had a cop in their midst.....

I think it depends a lot on where your car breaks down/runs out of gas. It's in the officer's best interest to help you out if they have the time so you can get your car moving again. I've never had a problem with cops. It's just a job. How can I fault them for ticketing me for doing donuts in a dog walking park at 2am.

My youngest brother is a cop (constable on patrol)....Maryland State Police. He's assisted motorists with everything from jump-starts to rides to and from the gas station and home.

And as he has told me on numerous occassions; the very vast majority of police officers actually take pride and a sense of pleasure in "helping people" and it's all done with "no charge".

The worst part of the job is getting a domestic call and then arrive at the home and have the "battered wife" physically jump on his back as he is attempting to take the wife-beating husband into custody!

Yep. Been there, done that. And he's right. I hate it when that happens.

Because no one should have been walking a dog at 2 AM in the morning!

If I still had my unmarked "company car," I would have been happy to give you another surprise! However, both of us have since retired.

I would NEVER expect an undercover V but I guess thats the idea.
I hope that would be a nice surprise(not the silver braclets).
Where did the car go? Don't tell me its still out there....

After three years it got replaced by a Grand Cherokee for the all weather ability. I miss that LS6!

I never got an opportunity to do somthing that I thought would be a blast: go to the dragstrip and when the tree started its countdown, flip on the lights and siren and pull a hole shot! :stirpot:

Yeah, I went over to the "dark side," but I'm waiting to see what Caddie does for 2009. The V was a great vehicle and never gave me anything but a toothy smile.

I may be back.

Carl - we'd welcome you back to the old timers club

Would you happen to know what type of work would be available in the DC area for a 26yo MP Captain just back from Iraq? Corp or RR might fit

PM me if you have any leads

Will they pick up your gas tab??? If so, I would do it.
How great would it be to spank them and then ticket them. They would go home with thier heads down and tails between their legs. I shouldn't find that funny but I do.
