The digital fuel gauge on a 97 Deville with 110K miles is malfunctioning. It is not showing the amount of fuel correctly. When it first started the problem seemed to occur or be at its worst around 7 gallon. The amount of fuel indicated would increase, then decrease. The indicator will show "F" when the car has been fueled and does decrease, however I have the feeling it may not be accurate. Also the "MPG" indicator fluctuates wildly. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Most likely it's the fuel sending unit- Caddy's have a problem in this area and apparently GM doesn't think it's worth while finding a permanent fix- since it's something used car buyers tend to have to deal with and they have the misguided notion that those people don't matter, when in fact they are their best source of advertising- i.e. if you or someone you know buys a used one and has trouble with it that no other car has, then your never going to buy a new one- you'll buy a lexus or Merc or beemer, but not that brand.
