Hello

I have an 88 Deville Executive... The car is a purplish brown? Thats the best I can describe it. I have been to countless junk yards and the only cars I have seen that are the same color as mine - were on the road still. Mine is fairly plain on the interior as far as options are concerned.. seats, etc. I even have a broken piece or two.

I recently needed to replace the headliner, but the only colors for the replacement are not even close to what I need. So, I was considering doing a black headliner and then painting the interior black to match the headliner. I also want to replace the front seats, as they are limited in their fuctionality - and the passenger is not even power. The leather on the steeringwheel is all stretched and looks funky. I wanted to inquire with the vinyl paint that they sell. I saw some posts about leather dye, but not really sure how I could get the car as more of a whole the same color.

Could I dye fabric to that similar color and then the body pieces if I went with the dye? How does that stuff get applied - like in a spray or?

I am more used to the vinyl paint stuff for interiors, but they don't have the right colors... and I am not sure of its use as a completely "full" interior application. Any ideas?

After having tried to restore the interiors of a couple of Austin Healeys and an MG, I'd guess you're in for some real frustration. Paints and dyes usually come out very splotchy and unfinished looking. If, by some miracle, you found a whole car with a decent interior you could swap the whole thing. A heck of a job, though. Sorry nothing more concrete........

Go to leathermagic.com and check out their dyes and stains. They can match any colour of interior and it is not too difficult to do - i had to dye some interior pieces from grey to dark blue and no probs.

88 Deville:

I am a technical advisor for Parasol Inc. We manufacture and distribute dye for many types of surfaces. Our Varikote product will work for what you are trying to do.

It is best to spray dyes onto leather, vinyl, plastics and cloth. Each coat must be very thin for good results. We sell this product in rattle cans or in bulk. We can custom-match the color you need.

For more information, please visit our website at: www.Parasolinc.com

Thanks,

Jim

My suggestion would be to buy a donor car and swap interiors. You can buy the second vehicle for less than you would spend on parts.
