My grandpa has a beautiful 1984 Coupe DeVille. Cotillion white with cloth maroon interior. Brand new remanufactured HT4100, new tires, cold air, perfect door panels, flawless paint and interior. Everything works. He is the second owner, and has had the car since 1989. The car has 130,000 miles on it but the engine is new. I was wondering what the value of such a car would be?

All the bumper inserts have been replaced recently. Any ideas? I was thinking about making an offer.

I'd say between 3K and 3500, based on the condition and if everything works like a/c, etc. Are there any special features like sunroof or wire wheels? Those can add about 1k each to the car, if they're factory.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but is a remfg. 4100 still as unreliable as an original -- or in the remfg process can whatever made the engines a problem be corrected?

I've known a few folks who just got a crate engine dropped in, but I don't suppose that fixes the problem they were built with. Maybe folks got crate engines and treated them as disposable since a proper rebuild would be more costly than just one more engine. Lends me to think rebuilt engines would actually have shot even though many opted to a have 'new' motor put in no matter how flawed it was. It's not like they were so bad that they were leaking oil on the show floor new, is it?

My mother's 84 FWB has a factory Cadillac reman in it. The original developed a nasty rod knock at 50K miles. The replacement has gone further than that with no problems. I remember the dealer telling my mother that it was a brand new engine that was built better than the old one (this was about 15 years ago), but I have been under the car and have found the GM rebuilt plate with the bearing and crank over/under sizes.
